6mmAR loads

Hello all, I have a 26in Bartlein 6mmAR barrel on the way and I was wondering if anyone had any load data they would share. Preffered components will be Varget at 95gr Berger Classic hunter bullets, brass is Lapua. I have looked at Robert Whitleys site but his load data for the straight 6mmAR is pretty generic and has no info for Varget which should be a great powder for this. Thanks for the help!!

I have the 6mm AR Turbo 40 version...For your rifle, use any loading manual for the 6mm BR cartridge..and bullet weight...Start below Max and work up.....RL-15 works great, Varget too..

I shoot a 6mm RAT which is very similar to the 6mm turbo 40. I had the best results with 8208 and 87vmaxs in a 7.5 twist. Tried 95smk and varget. Groups were not as good. I have some AR Comp to try next. Please let us know what you find.

Shooterman,
were you shooting those 87 vmax out of magazine if so, can you tell me what coal you used
i have fat rat with 8 twist

thanks

COAL for the 87 vmax is 2.235", 10 thou off the lands. These shot the best for me with 8208 and BR4s. About 9 months ago I had to switch to the hornady 87 hpbt because I could not find the Vmaxs. They are a little cheaper but do not group as well. Surprisingly the 95smk did not shoot well with the fast twist but I was loading those at mag lengths which gave me ~75-100 thou off the lands.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I never shot the 6mm AR, but the Turbo 40 Improved couldn't have been easier to tune...I used the data for fireforming on Robert Whitleys site and was spot on....With Lapua and Hybrid 105's most were in the 1's and 2's at 100 yds......I used RL-15 and have never looked back. Full power loads are as good........SO it was VERY EASY to tune....I have a 26" Pac Nor 3 groove barrel.......When wind quiets down some soon, I will test at 600 yds for some new stuff.... I shot it in a 600 yd F-Class Match and was within 3 points AGG from my Creedmoor........The 3rd relay wind shifts got me as i was behind but the rifle is better than i am..........

Thanks for the info, again! The previous owner of the barrel I bought used 27.7gr of 4895 on a 90gr Berger and said it didnt get any better than that. Only issue is I cant find 4895 locally, so Im stock with my stock pile of Varget. It should work well though, and Ill just start at like 26gr and work up a load for 95gr Berger Classic Hunters.

Rifle50,
Are you single feeding those 105s or loading them to mag length? I have not tried any bergers yet primarly due to the shortage but if anyone has recommendations please send them my way.

With Varget, start at 27.7 grs. and work up from there, 105s-108s, etc., loaded about .025 off the lands with the non-VLDs. I shot the 6 WOA for years and the 240 Tomahawk now, Varget, H4895, RL15, AR Comp, and 8208 all shoot great in the 6MMs, the only think i didnt like about 8208 is its a little fast and can in some rifles cause failure to lock back. I have tried numerous times to get away from Varget, but keep coming back to it and H4895. I'm guessing you will end up arounf 28.5 grs of Varget depending on the lot. You can also email Robert and he is usually quick to answer but obviously he knows the cartridge better than anyone!

AR Comp can be a good powder, but i would occassionally get an off call with it at 600, and ended up back at Varget! Also, the new Hornady 105 BTHP Match about .025-.030 off has been an outstanding bullet for me, they are available and cheap compared to the more expensive bullets. Last prone match with my 6br, my first string i shot with the Hornady's and it was a 200-11X, Dave

I have two AR turbo 40's and both were very easy to tune loads for and they have close to 1500 rounds between the two. 75 & 87 v-maxes, mag fed and the most accurate but not the greatest on p-dogs is the hornady 87bthp. The 75's with H335 @coal of 2.173, the 87's with H4895 @ 2.195 and the Hornady 87's with H4895 @2.190..all mag fed. Various Bergers will outshoot these but need to single feed them due to coal. Fun little round..love to shoot it! Eric in DL

I was giving suggestions for the straight 6mm AR, although i havent had a 6mm AR or turbo 40, i have shot a 6mm WOA, a 6RAT, and 240 Tomahawk. Dave
