6mm X 22-250

Recently acquired a Darrel Holland 6mmx250 with a Harry Lawson Thumbhole stock, does anyone have any load data on this cartridge, The gun had been in the safe for the last 3 plus yrs, and the gentleman had lost his load data for it, he did remember that it like the 85-95 grn nosler BT's tho, Hope someone has some data on this rnd , for I have little data to work with
Thanks

Howdy !

I'd think you'd wanna be trying powder in the IMR4350, VV160,
RL-19; AA3100 range.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Had a 300 metre ISU match rifle made up in 6/250 in the 1980`s. McGowen 10 twist 26 inch stainless barrel, trued 722 action, Timney trigger, Fajen prone stock, Anschutz fittings, Central aperture rear sight. Beautiful cartridge. Very accurate with 87 VMax, IMR 4320. It is a smaller cartridge so prefers medium burning rate powders.

Older barrels tend to have slower twists, especially if made up as a varmint gun. So as earlier stated, twist rate is important.

Try and cover all reply's so far, it has a 24" barrel, By REDNECK Measuring the twist is a TOSS UP, it is falling close to 1/11 but that is with running a patch down the barrel and measuring a full turn, so It could and should be a 1/10, The data I got from the HODGDON site only gives Hodgdon powders, I like them , but also run alot of IMR, WIN, and Reloader,, If you look at the Hodgdon data and compare it to the 6mm International, there is a good difference, 1000yardstar, do you have an powder charge wt from your gun, I Love the way it feels and looks, Just need to get it to shoot, starting blind with it is a problem, this gun was made between 2001 and 2004, that is the time frame, holland and Lawson had it in their confines, it was made up for Antelope hunting
Thanks for all ya'lls help maybe this information will help out

It's a good cartridge, I have two of them. Finding the best loads took a little more work than with other cartridges, but they shoot well. Both are used on varmints and with lighter bullets.

Both rifles have 12" twist. Load in one is a 55BT with 844 powder. The other one shoots W760 powder with a 65 or 70gr bullet.

This cartridge is 250 Savage case necked down to 6mm. One gun uses .250 brass necked and turned. The other uses 22-250 brass necked up. Both work just fine. You'll notice when doing load workup.....a load that would be max for the 22-250 is milder when the hole is enlarged to 6mm.

This is a good varmint cartridge and feeds perfectly in the short 700 action, but one of these rifles will be rechambered to 6BR. The 6BR gets pretty near the same velocity shooting 55's-65's and does it with 7 or 8gr less powder.

When you push something through the barrel it unscrews itself. Measuring twist, start a brush at the muzzle and pull it through.

Thanks, I'm using 22-250 Brass with redding s bushing dies, the gentleman that had this rifle built said he had gotten his best accuracy with the 85-90 grn bullets , but has lost his data,it is built on a 700 action I guess my biggest problem i have is Time, I don't have the time to really tinker and experement with loads like I used to, But this little cartridge really intigues me, on another note, what is your take on the 6mm BR I know noone that has one, , and you can get near same velocities with less powder, with out running out to the shop , and getting my books, can the 6x250 be reamed out to the 6mmBR, without having to rebarrel, I had had a 7mmMag, punched out to a 7mmSTW, right after the STW Fad hit, But data was much easier to get,,I love the stock on this gun and would hate to have to alter it

Thanks

Your smith would have to take the barrel off, set it back, and rechamber it for the 6mmBR! Bolt face won't be a problem cause its the same as a 22-250! I would try to figure that one out though if you have all the dies and brass!

According to the 5th edition of the Sierra manual they have these loads listed as maximum with 100 grain bullets for the 6-250. Hope this helps.

IMR4198- 24.7
IMR3031- 29.9
IMR4895- 32.4
IMR4064- 32.0
748- 32.1
H380- 34.6

Yes, thought it would give you a place to start with other powders. Most of the guys around here that are shooting the 6x22-250 are shooting with 8 twist barrels and 105-108 grain bullets. Varget and H4350 seem to be their powders of choice.
