6mm Taylor

I trying to find some information on Rick Taylor. He chambered some of his bench rest rifles in 6mm-06 or as he called it "The 6mm Taylor. Can anyone help me out here? I believe it was a 30-06 case necked down to 6mm. He shot 1,000 yd and was good at it before he passed on.

6mm terminator , barrel burner then some .
6mmo6imp shoots great for 300 rnds then its all over for barrel life .

I'm currently building a 6mm rifle based on the .264 Win Mag necked down, no other change. Should push the 105 A max a little over 3300 fps in a 26" barrel. Didn't want to try the 6-284...

You are just joking right?
I seem to remember a 6-284 pushing a 105 a 3,400 FPS.
A 7 mag necked down to 6mm,what is the barrel life on that? 200 rounds..
I seem to remember a few guys stating that the 7mm ultra mag by the time they had a good solid load worked out the barrel was toast...
The 6mm/06 is about the same as the 6/284 but the 6/284 has a reputation of being a tack driver..

My 32" 6mm Remington is pushing 105 Hybrids at 3310 with H4831 SC. I got >3400 with N560 and Reloder 22 but did not have the accuracy of the H4831 load. I will shoot the rifle next year in our club F-Class matches to save the .284 Shehane barrels. It is accurate and the ballistics look good, so it should do Ok.

When you get over 6mm Remington capacity (57.6 g H2O), barrels start to go away pretty quickly. I have been through a few 6mm barrels and accurate life is nothing about which to brag.

I know it will work because, 20 years ago, my Dad built a 6mm-300 Wby in a Ruger No1 action with a 28" barrel. It was nicknamed 6mm SOB for Speed Or Burst or Superbly Over Bore, dont remember. I only have a 26" .243 Win barrel salvaged from a brand new Rem 700, this is the reason why I'm limited to 3300 fps and not 3000 fps as I incorrectly wrote.
And, in fact, I didn't consider the .284 case because the barrel was too short to make it worthwile.

wasn't there a 243 super rock chucker back in the 70s?

Not sure about the super rock chucker , but I had a 240 Gibbs built by the late Charly Starner of new Oxford Pa. back in the mid 70's . It had a light varnit Starr barrel 28" on a 1903a3 Springfield action , and it was a tack driver when the bullets would get to the target. It had a habbit of blowing up the bullets before they reached the target. I'm not real sure the bullets of the day were ment to travel in excess of 4000 fps. The 240 Gibbs is based on a 30-06 case necked down in several steps to 6mm. I used military brass ( Denver 43 ) was the prefered brass at the time. The brass was annealed , before fireforming. The case was like most Ackly Improved cases with a 40 % shoulder and the case has vervy little taper from base to shoulder. It would push a 75gr Sierra hp at 4100fps, and as memory serves me I got less than one summer ground hog hunting with it before the barrel was toast. After about 300 rounds ,not counting fireforming that was done with a full case of powder and tissue paper ) the barrel just gave up! It started shooting paterns not groups , kinda like a shot gun if you know what I mean :'( I went back to the old stand by 243 Win. John
