6mm Super X

Shot the Super X at a 3X600 yard match this weekend. I kinda did the un thinkable and went to the match with an un tested load. I had sorta tested this load combanation Back last fall but i increased the neck tension and seated the Bullet farther in the lands.

Rifle:
R700,trued)
Kiff fluted, coned,sako ext, Bolt
GTR shroud firing pin and spring
Ellisio B1 stock
Centra Rear sight
Right sight front 30mm
Satern 1:8 Medium Palma 236 barrel
Kelby BR trigger

Load:

105 BergerVLD
.0010 in the lands
Lapua Brass
44.5gr N560
CCI Br 2 primers

I shot two Matches with it and one with my service rifle.

1. 198-14X
2.194-3X, service rifle)
3.200-9X

Temperature was a perfect 70 or so degrees
wind was light and variable. switching from left to right but not real fast.

I believe this load to be going around 3200fps or just shy of that.,Ill have to re check after the neck tension change) Zero signs of pressure in MY rifle.

Just wanted to update on the 6mm Super X based off the 243 Winchester case.,Lapua)

Based on my testing of the 6mm Super X, I believe your velocity has to be in excess of 3150 fps with that loading. 43 gr of N160 gets me up in the 3150 fps range with a Berger moly 105 VLD.

Shot the super X in a 1000 yard prone match this weekend.

First match was 197-7X and a 196-8X. I got Squauded next to another High Master shooter shooting a 6.5X284. It was intresting to see as we both started out just pounding the X ring on that last match. both targets were comming up with X's and tens at about my 11th shot and his tenth we both where on the gun when the wind let off and we both were in the X ring prior to that shot. I bet you could not tell which target was which as the bullet impacted in the 9 ring at the EXACT same spot. Our shots were about a second and a half from each other.

I think he was using 142 MatchKings but I cant be certain since I did not ask. I told him to spot me a few points since i Was shooting this lil 6mm as I winked. ; )

ON the Paper results. Not to shabby. Im seeing results equal to the mighty 6.5X284, I have two of them). Its been an intresting test so far.

PS I was using 115Berger VLD's

No that is one powder I did not try. I figured the slow N165 did not work that great so I did not test that one.

Send me an email And Ill send you my Data via Excell spread sheet.

All,
I have tested both H-1000 and N-165 with both 105 and 115 bullets. Although I haven't run the loads through the chrono yet, the 105's show excellent promise. The 115's shoot in the low .2's at 100 yds with ES of 12, vel. of 3,033 with N-165 and 3,017 if memory serves for the H-1000. The H-1000 is slightly cleaner, but all in all, it's a wash in either a Krieger 1-7.5" or Broughton 1-8" bbl.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

Lloyd,
What loads are you using with the H1000 in your rifle an what is your barrel length?? Thanks!!

Russ I will email you today with heading H1000 loads. Thanks!!

Raptor,
I use 47.5 gr. of H-1000, W-W case, Wolf, commie) primers and either a 115 Berger VLD, 115 DTAC, or 105 Berger VLD. All shoot sub .25 MOA. I have two bbls. a 1-7.5" Krieger and a 1-8" canted land Broughton. Both are 31" to 31 1/2" finished. As usual, the normal cautions apply. Start at least 10% low, and work up. What works well in my Stolle my not be safe in your rig.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

Thanks Lloyd,
I tried the 47.5 load of H1000 in mine and loosened primer pockets with WW brass. It shot really well with the 105s but was real hard on brass. I finally settled on 46.5grs and that is shooting very well for me also. Thanks again for the info!!

Raptor,
Always happy to help. These posts are a classic example of why anyone sharing load data should include the standard disclaimers.
Raptor, what kind of velocity are you getting?
Thanks,
Lloyd

Lloyd,
I don't trust my cronograph it's putting me at around 3100. I would think its more in the 3000 to 3050 range from my real world shooting and dials.
