my memory on the charge weight is vague but I bought a Rem 700 VLS new in the late 90`s and shot the bbl out of it with 4064 and the 70 Nosler Balistic Tip that chronied at 3700 fps,,I am sure it was over book max but brass lasted forever and bolt lift was easy,,
most accurate factory rifle I ever owned
Not running that hot with my load. 41 grains is around 3400fps. Max Hodgdon book load is 44.5 grains for 3700fps. Don't remember why I stopped there, but wanted a moderate load that is accurate. Definiitely haven't had any issues with bolt lift or brass life.
Maybe if they changed the name to 6mm xke-barco-lounger, and tighten the twist a wee bit it would get there...I'm a 6mm Remington fan...I love the 6mm Remington. Very easy to load forgiving and flat. Currently running a 7.5 twist Krieger w/ Berger 105 Hybrid 48gr H1000. With 200 yd zero I’m 22 minutes to 1000 give or take depending on conditions.
The 6mm is one of those old calibers I feel others are always trying to replicate. With all the 6mm wildcats based off the 243 case (mainly because of brass availability IMO) if people would try the 6mm Rem with the right twist and bullet I doubt they would change. It’s hard to explain but everyone I’ve ever had just plain shoots. Didn’t matter if it’s a custom rig or factory.
I’ll try the RL26 on my next build. I’ve always had good luck with H1000 and 105-115 gr. Bullets. hard to change it if it ain’t broke

Hunted groundhogs through several 6 mm Rem barrels with 48 gr 4831, mag primer, 75 Sierra hp or the old 80 gr Rem hp. They were also devistating on deer. DRT.Anyone care to share their favorite or go to loads for the 6mm Remington. I have a Cooper mod 54 montana varmiter, 26" 1 in 10 twist. My best groups so far seems to be with the sierra 85gr HPBT and 39.5 gr of IMR 4320.
