6mm remington

I have finally decided on the 6mm remington for my first savage/stevens build, I will mostly be using it for target practice, varmit hunting and mayby antalope hunting will 80-90 grain bullets fit in a short action stevens receiver or do I need a long action? Thanks for the help

Howdy !

Unless you have barrel/leade set-up for a really long 6mm Rem cartridge; they oughta' fit in a " short " action's port .

A 100 g Hornady SP seated 2.825" OAL is a little far back in the case at .460" seating depth but would still function fine. Your action will probably tolerate a little longer seating. Just make sure that the barrel maker knows what you want and a dummy cartridge is a good way to do that.

For bullets from 55-75, Varget is a good performer. 77-95, H4350 performs well. Above 95, H4831 SC or Reloder 22. A 9" twist is a versatile compromise, handling boattails from 55-95 and flatbase up to 100. The 6mm is pretty tolerant so powders of similar burning rates should work.

I have two 6mm rifles and a third under construction. One of my favorites.
