6mm Remington and Berger Bullets

Finally got my 6mm Rem put together and started load testing with Berger 68, 88 and 105 grainers.
The 68's shoot 1/2 inch with 36.5 grs of IMR 3031. The 88's shoot about 3/4 inch with 40 grs of IMR 4064, but the best I can get out of the 105's is about a 1 1/2 inch with Varget and IMR 4320.
My gun is a Savage 110 with PTG bolt head and a Brux 24 inch1-8 barrel with the Rifle Basix trigger bedded in a Richards Microfit BR laminated stock.

For those that have shot/shoot the Berger 88's & 105's have you had better groups if so, what loads are you shooting?

I ran a 6mm Remington for several years as one of my long range sling guns, assuming you have the twist rate for the 105's, Varget is too fast for the heavy bullet in that cartridge, I had best results with a slower powder (VV n165)

Bill,
Without knowing what distance you are testing at and since everyone is throwing out possibilities, might consider H4831SC and Rl-19 on the 105's and VVN133 or VVN135 on the lites (68's). Might also want to check your various Reloading Manuals for what they found works best in their test rifles that might give you hints of other routes to go. And pay attention to their "Accuracy Loads." But in the end, only your Rifle will tell you what SHE likes regardless of what others have found success with.

Thx Bill for clarification on the distance. I stand by my suggestion of trying VVN 133 for the 68's @100. Worth a try but not at 500 yds,

Alex

I used VV N160 with Hornady's 105 grs. in a custon Ruger #1. Got a seven inch group at one thousand yards. Slight wind.

I am shooting 115 gr VLDs from a Six Remington Ackley with a 28" Pac-Nor 8 Twist. Using IMR-7828 SSC and Rl-25. My home range is 250 yards and my groups are running under an inch at 250 yards. Berger shows RL-25 and 7828-SSC with the 115 in the 6 Rem. Their twist rate calculator shows that I am losing BC running a 115 in a 8 twist, probably true but I am still happy with the results.

If Berger shows these two powders with the 105 I would try them. Great Results!

Thanks. Haven't tried 4895 I'll give it a whirl. BTW I'm shooting at 100 yds for load development, then on to 400 max as that is as far as my range goes.
I tried H4350 at 100yds and had decent groups but when I shot the 4350 and 4895 at 400yds the 4895 produced better groups. I couldn't find any published data for 4895 for the 105's but a buddy ran the numbers in quickload for me. I haven't chrono'd to get accurate MV but working backwards in ballistic calculator I'm getting 2950fps with Hornadys published BC of .530 I'm happy with the accuracy so I haven't chased anymore speed.

What is the twist rate of the rifle barrel ? And did you try our BERGER VLD bullet seating depth testing information for the 6mm 105s?

Take care,

try RL 19 and IMR 4831 with the 88s and RL22 and IMR7828 with the 105s,,I use to shoot the 70 NBT and 46 grs IMR4064 in a Rem 700 VLS and it was the most accurate load in that rifle at 1/3rd MOA and clocked over 3700 fps so start about 42 and work up,,
