6mm Rem Nosler 80gr loads?

I'll be taking delivery of my 6mm Remington project shortly. It's an m40a1 copy,1 in 9 schneider barrel) to be used for prairie dogs and groundhogs. I have a supply of remington brass, fed 210's and a box of Nosler 80gr ballistic tips that I'd like to start with.

I'd like to see if any of you have some loads worked up with this combo. I'd like to be able to reach out and touch with this one as my .204 is fine for everything else.

I've got the Nosler manual but was also wondering how RL17 would do..

Thanks!

GlockSig,

I am a huge fan of the 6mm Rem. Having three different rifles in this caliber, I have found that Reloader 19 and H4831, with a Fed Match/Mag primer, worked out to be the best combination. I dont use the 80 Noslers but the 87 gr Hornady. Velocities range from 3125 to a tad over 3300 fps with this powder and primer.

I saw a load with RL 19 for the nosler as well. I'll try both loadings. What kind of accuracy are you seeing out of the VMAX?

Glocksig,

I use the rifles for P.Dog hunting and the accuacy is just great. Two are production guns except for triggers and stock bedding. while the last is a Shilen barreled U-9 action. All 3 are roughly 5/8 of an inch or less. The 6mm is easy a 500-600 yard dog caliber. The 87 V-max still delivers clean kills at those distances.

Thanks for the input, as it turns out it doesn't like the Noslers. However it shoots the Berger 80 g over 41.5 of 4064 into one hole at 100 yards, needless to say I've found my load. I'm getting 3450 fps out of this load. Bring on the groundhogs and p dogs!

The last custom 6mm that I had, also loved 41.5g of IMR 4064 with the Fed 210's with the 80g Sierra at 3475 fps. I killed a slug of yotes with that load. Mine also loved the 80g Bergers, but not the WHOP factor on yotes as the 80g Sierra.

I'd look at 87g-100g weights of bullets not 80grs.The 9 twist is more suited to those weights.

I'm working on some 95 and 105 g berger VLD's. It may not stabilize the 105's but we'll see. Berger recommneded the 95's for my gun. It sure does love the 80 g ones though. Unfortunately I've only had a chance to shoot a couple crows with it and it punched a hole through both. I'd like to see the effect on a ground hog. The 95 or 105 I'd like to used for deer.
