6mm Rem New Brass Length

Just curious if anyone has any new 6mm Rem brass, preferably Winchester) and has an idea what it measures in OAL before anything is done to it. A friend of mine said he had some that measured around 2.225" and I was wondering if that was about the norm for new factory stuff.

If you're planning to order a reamer for this cartridge, consider all options as the case can be made out of the 257 Rbts and the 7 Mauser. Maybe you should neck down a few samples of these 2 cases,as I'm not sure the 6mm will always be available) and carefully check their dimensions.

My last bulk bag of WW SUPER measured between 2.224 and 2.227 with the majority being at 2.225.

I don't know what's planned but a 244 Ackley will end up about 2.215 after fireforming and trimming.

Using 7mm Mauser brass to get Norma or Lapua was one choice that several shooters made a few years ago but the new Winchester brass is of better quality than it was back then and it's not hardly worth the extra expense and work today. And I think it will be a long time before we have to resort to forming the 244 from other brass just because it is no longer being made. JMHO

Thanks guys. I was considering trying a 6mm Rem and thinking I would set up the reamer based upon the brass that is out there. Winchester, from what I hear, is about the best around, and that was the reason for my inquiry.

Robert,
Are you going to try shooting the 115s in the 6MM case with the slow burning powders like H1000??? I think this is the way to go instead of reforming a 243 case. Just my opinion not sure how it will work though, it just seems like the logical step to me.

If I try the 6mm Rem, I will undoubteldy try the 115's. I must say, I like the 6mm Super X a great deal - it's real easy to reform the brass, just lube the case and run it through a 6XC sizing die held off the shellholder about .120"), it's got a long neck, 30 degree shoulder angle, take your pick of brass,Lapua, Winchester, Nosler Premuim, Remington, etc.), and you can get 3000+ fps with the 115's no problem, plus you can use 6XC off the shelf dies. 6mm Super X can be used for across the course, because it sets up well for mag length feeding too - whereas 6mm Rem is a bit long of a case.

For long range the 6mm Rem seems to be a good application. I am still debating whether I want to try it. I certainly don't need to own another set of reloading dies.

Robert,
As you know I was really liking your idea with the 6superX but by the time I buy a reamer I thought it might just be easier to go with the 6MM Remington case and use the H1000 in it for shooting the 115s. I have a long action to use so that wouldn't be a problem.

I really like the 6XC I have but I think its a little weak at 1000yds with the 105s I currently shoot. This is why I was looking at your superX. I think the 6MM Remington might work as well. At least that is my thoughts anyway. Thanks for all your help and thoughts on this!!!!

The 6mm Rem with the 115's and slow powder is a great long range package, we've been shooting it out west,Coalinga and Phoenix) with good results, very accurate, good barrel life and not at all finiky and the Winchester brass is really very good only requiring minimal prep.

I'm using N165 but we've had good results with H4831SC and RE19 as well, I've shot both the Berger 115 and the DTAC's with excellent results, my last barrel went +2400 it could still clean an MR1 but neded to be changed for the upcoming LR season

With the Berger 115 loaded +.015" into the rifling, the cartridge O.A.L. is approxamatly 3.175"
