6mm PRC??

Anyone had any experience? I know over bore barrel burner blah blah blah. I love 6mm’s and want to try this combo any thoughts?

Thanks John.

I had to go do a search to find out what this is. And like the bulletin on accurate shooter that popped up i cant see the point either. Not enough gain over a creedmoor and short of the 284 based cases. Unless you just had a spare short magnum action but then you could use a saum and get better velocity. No need in it- no improvement so its destined to become a footnote

OP's asking about a 6mm version.......however......

6.5 creedmoor: 52-53 gr case capacity
6.5 SLR: 55-56 gr
6.5 PRC: 66-67 gr
6.5 SAUM: 70-71 gr

The PRC has 25% more capacity than a creedmoor, and 5-6% less than a SAUM. In quickload, holding pressure constant at 57k psi in a 26" barrel with 140 hybrids, a 6.5 SAUM (H1000) is about 30-40 fps faster than a 6.5 PRC (H1000), and the PRC is 220 fps faster than a 6.5 creedmoor (H4350).

Dusty I hope you're wrong because I am having a 6.5 PRC built. Now, if you will notice the OP's message he seems to be talking about a 6 MM version of the PRC which I have not seen anything about. Not sure your "eagle eye" caught that fact.

I built a 6.5 PRC a while back, and am quite fond of it. Brass is pretty damn good, and tough as nails. Some fire five times now, and no sign of quit, despite some more than stout loads

I could see a 6mm version a viable option, and a better mousetrap than the 6-284.

I look at the 6.5mm version as the same as the 6.5 version. Substitute 6saum or 6x284 or 6creed for 6.5 and its the same thing just a different bullet caliber. The way these wildcats are you can compare a 6creed to 6prc exactly the same way you say 6.5creed and 6.5prc.

This should to be a good round for repeaters. At 66-67 gr. capacity (alf's post), it is identical in capacity to my Lapua 6.5-284 fired cases. However, the 6-284 is a little too long for short action repeaters without stuffing the bullet back in the case. The 6 PRC should give you 6-284 performance in a repeater without the OAL problem. Both the 6-284 and 6-06 rounds give some real performance in LR low volume varmint shooting, like GH's and coyotes.

Sorry but I have to disagree. I shoot both 6 and 6.5 Creedmoor. The 6 Creedmoor is head and shoulders above the 6.5 especially at distances of 1,000 yards or more. My 6 Creedmoor needs only 6.6 Mil dial up for 1,000 yards from its 100 yard zero. My 6.5 Creed can't touch it.
As for the 6.5PRC, I don't know (like anyone else) what its future is and neither do you. The market judges and delivers the fate of everything in "our world". The 6.5PRC has potential; but so did many of the WSM cartridges that are now in the grave.

6-284 seems to have similar case capacity, but not great in a short action repeater. Funny how the 6-284 is a darling that fills a badly needed gap by most standards, but any “new” 6 is overbite and worthless. My recommendation is go for it if you want to try it, it will probably do evwrything you want it to do. Unless it’s x284 or x47, you will be frowned upon by many here. Even more so if it’s a commercially successful cartridge.

I think you could be on to something here. Seems like the right capacity for the reasonable limits of a fast 6mm, with the ability to cycle well from a short action. Has anyone ordered a reamer yet?
