6mm PPC and Vihtavuori-133

I'm Posting a question on Vihtavuori-133 and 6mm ppc. I hear comments on different Lots of V-133, Like Lot xxxx or year, date of manufactured,
being faster than another lot. For example year 2011 might be more fluffy and fill the case, and not being able to achieve full velocity. And Lot-2019 might be little more dense and easy to put 31 grains in a ppc case and get full velocity out of a 20" barrel.
Is there one Lot more preferred than another?? I only have some experience with 2018 and 2019. Both seem close to the same to me.. However I'm just getting to understand the barrel nodes and how to load to stay within that node. With the temperature and humidity.
Thanks in advance for any help on the different Lots of Vihtavuori-133

My thought is given supply issues if you have the chance to buy any, any, in the current situation , buy all you can of 1 lot number. Learn to tune it to your barrel and learn how to make it work for you. Also, if you don't have one, install a tuner and learn how to make it work for you. Most important thing, always shoot over wind flags and learn how your shots are affected by conditions. All the above way more important than finding 'the lot's. In my opinion.

Jeff is spot on. No matter which lot you have just learn it. Practice doesnt make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. Always practice like its a match. Practice in the wind with flags- dont wait for better conditions, shoot your group in the ruff and see where the wind takes you then hold off and try to put em in the hole

there was a time long ago on another world when 44 lb kegs were available.

i was asking Ron Hohen what lot he had for sale. Ron said just buy a keg and learn to shoot it.

it worked then and it works now.

buy enough that you can learn it and have plenty left to shoot with.

I agred with everyone above with the exception of don’t let anyone pawn their
2015 N133 off on you
ask me how I know.
Oh..... if you were to find you like that lot. I can hook you up!

That's funny you mentioned the 2015 lot Tim. My friend Chris Mitchell (Smitty Jon) sold me a 2015 lot that was packaged on January 29th, 2015. He was shooting a 6PPC at the time and he couldn't stuff enough of that powder in his case to make it work. I mean it was so low that no matter if you tried to get it to shoot you couldn't, not in a PPC. I bought the rest off him which was about 7 and 1/2 pounds. Now I have at least 9 different lots of 133 which I use in my 30 Jaguar II which is a modified 30x47. That lot of his produced the highest velocity in my Jag out of 7 lots that I tested. It averaged 75FPS faster than earlier lots from 94, 97, 2001, 2007, 2009 & 2013.

Just want to add that the above information is problematic because it comes from the web.
Like most info on the web take it with a Grain of salt and be very skeptical... enough said.

In my opinion, 2015 N133 is good stuff in a 6PPC. You don’t have to stuff a case full of N133 to get it to shoot well. Been shooting that lot for five years.

Keep in mind that not all 2015 133 is the same lot number. I have had at least 2 and they were totally different. Pay attention to lot number and not just the year.

If your expectations aren't too high any lot of 133 shoots great!
I do have high expectations. That’s why I have taken the time to learn how to tune 2015 lots. Others apparently haven’t learned how to tune 2015 lots. That’s okay. It leaves more 2015 powder for me to acquire.

I didn’t really mean this like I see now it came across.
just saying the ppc shoots little bitty groups with a lot of different powders and lot numbers
But to shoot it and compete at a national level is a different thing all together
one doesn’t have much to do with the other it just depends on what you are trying to accomplish

You pretty much summed it up Tim. When your stuffing a certain lot to the brim and the most your getting out of it is 3100 fps and not your usual 3350 to 3400 your going to get used at a match I don't care how much you learn how to tune that slow lot of powder.
