As a 300 meter prone competition shooter I am sitting on the fence to buy a new Grünig & Elmiger Free Rifle (ISSF). The only question which remains to be solved is the caliber. 300 meter competition is quite demanding, 60 shots + sighters in 75 minutes is hard on barrels and the accuracy of the guns has to be outstanding ("10" = < 4" and "X" = < 2" at 300 meter).
My questions are:
Does the new 6XC has an advantage over the 6BR for this type of shooting. Is it as accurate?
Would barrel life in the 6 XC still be acceptable for this type of shooting? The 6 BR gives me a usefull barrel life of 3000 - 3500 rounds (Moly coated 105 gr. Scenars in a Border barrel 30.0 gr. N140) which translates into roughly one season.
