XC vs BR speed

Hi Guys,
I am now starting the long and frustrating process of applying for a license for a 6 mm rifle.
My choice still lies between the XC and BR. What speeds can I safely expect from the BR with 95 gr Bergers?
I would like to drive them at 3100 to 3200 fps.
My barrel is a 1 in 8,5 twist 4 groove Bartlein.
We are limited to our local Somchem powders is South-Africa, and I would like to be within safe pressure limits.

Greetings from sunny SA!
Andre.

on the home page both calibers and loads are listed on the left side, check it out your questions are answered. cliffe

HI Andy....I get aprox 3090fps out of my 6mmBR with the 95 gr Berger VLD's ....and they shoot GREAT....I dont know what the web site here says..,I will look) but this is real world loads that I have shot by the thousand....and with match winning accuracy....hope this helps...Roger

How long is the barrel?
A 24” barrel will yield about 2850fps and a 30” barrel will yield about 2970fps from a 6BR case. A 24” barrel will yield about 3000fps and a 30” barrel will yield about 3125fps from a XC case. This of course is using a 95gr Berger.

I get 2928fps,average) from a 24" barrel useing a 95gr Berger VLD, 40gr H414 in a .243 Winchester cartridge. I'm going to switch to 41 to 42gr H4350 and should get an even 3000fps.

However, some barrels are faster than others and the powder you choose will be the deciding factor.

Howzit!
I've had a 6XC and also have a 6BR - I use,d) them for across the course High Power and 300m ISSF shooting.
In performance terms there is nothing between them, but the XC has more capacity if needed, at longer range, and feeds better from a magazine.
My velocities with 105/107 gr bullets were in the 2900fps range, using moderate and published,David Tubb and 6BR.com) loads.
Not sure about Somchem powders,I left RSA a while back) but there would be a Varget or H4350 burn rate equivalent.
Best wishes
Aubrey

With a 26" Kreiger barrel and a fairly light load of Varget, I get 2950fps with 95gr SMK's. The load would go to 3,000fps easily. Much past 3,000fps I don't know.
