Lots of guys running 6 RAT & Fat RAT in AR15s, which is the Grendel case necked down to 6mm, leaving a false shoulder very much like fireforming 6 Dasher by necking the 6BR Norma up to 6.5 & then back down to 6mm. So in essence, the 6 RAT is a miniature Dasher. I always wanted a bolt rifle repeater in 6 RAT, and my first one was built on a CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39. I took a 24" Krieger #4 sporter blank, turned the shank down from 1.250" to 1.070" to be a closer match to the little 527's front receiver ring, chambered it for the RAT, and have had fun with it. The downside is that CZ's Mauser-style claw extractor won't allow for single loading 105s seated long enough to avoid compressed charges, which are too long to fit in the magazine.
Solution - I've got a couple of Howa's new Mini bbl'd actions in 6.5 Grendel, which I'll be re-barreling for the 6 RAT. The Howas are push-feed actions - with mini-16 style extractor - which will work like a champ for single loading rounds loaded with any of the longer 105-108gr bullets. Both Manners & McMillan are working on modeling inlets on barreled Mini actions I've sent them, so before long, there will be excellent stocks available for these actions. Manners hopes to have one at SHOT, and McMillan should be close to having the one I ordered from them a couple of months afterwards. Photos of the CZ527 before & after re-barreling to 6 RAT.
