Decided to build a 6mm before they cracked my chest. Talked to several folks that had open heart surgery and this seemed to be a re-occurring theme, reduce the recoil quite a bit, but continue shooting. Differing problems, but same theme, the old pre surgery recoil threshold will change. I have always been a believer in and learn from experience, kind of person. I do not have to pee on the electric fence for myself.
So looked around and decided to go with the 6mm guns, first, then the AR-15 platform to reduce weight to achieve the same purpose. The AR-10 would be too heavy for at least a while after surgery. So the 6x45 was a good candidate, then hit upon the 6mm Mongoose, with a shortened case and blown out body to fit an AR-15 magazine with heavier bullets later on. Cheap, redily available 223 brass, etc. So that build was completed one month prior to my going in. The recoil with 80s is totally acceptable after the surgery. Plus it shoots .3 inches with H-335 or the 844 surplus bulk powder. I used an Aero upper and lower with an adjustable block on a McGowan 18" mid length gas SS barrel.
Never shot a 6mm much before, only bought 243 700s for donor actions. Now have a 24 Varmint and a 243. May turn into a 6mm guy. Old dogs and all that stuff. My 338s and 458s are on the rack.
