6MM DASHER SEATER FOR 6MMBR

Guys, I have a 6mm Dasher Wilson micrometer top seater, and I was wondering if it would work just as well for a 6mmBR seater. Surely someone else has given this a try.

gmorganal,

I have been using a 6BRX seater for 7 years for all of my 6BR loading.

Base is the same, neck is the same. Should work fine.

Exactly. I have been using a Dasher seater for my 6BR for over 10 yrs and it works great. ;D

It will work but Dave Berg is correct it won't be supported correctly, 6brx is a different story as the shoulder angle is the same, yet it's .0100 longer so again no support? your choice of course but dies are cheap, matches get expensive especially if your not winning, just a thought.

Thanks much for the replies, gents. This is one of the Wilson micrometer tops that is not removable, and I am just talking about using a 6mm Dasher seater for seating bullets in a 6mmBR.

If Mark Schronce is using a BRX for a 6BR, I don't think there's a problem. I'll try it, check the concentricity and give it a whirl.

I'm using a Redding S type resizing die, and it doesnt' resize all the way to the bottom of the neck anyway. I'll bet the Dasher die supports just about as much of the BR neck that is being resized anyway. I am running light tension right now, and I'm thinking it's going to work.

I omitted one comment I wanted to make. As far as dies being inexpensive, these Wilson MT dies are $97 at Sinclair's plus shipping. That would go a long way toward the purchase of 8 pounds of powder or 500 Bergers, so if I don't have to buy it, I'd rather not.

Well to each his own, I don't call $97 expensive, it cost me $300 in just fuel to make every match, the Dasher is .0100 longer then the 6br so it is far from a perfect match but I am sure it will seat bullets, then again if you torched off a little off a .243 die it would also seat a bullet in a 6br. best of luck to you and I am sure it will all work ;)

Jim, I was using info I got from Bob at Sinclairs when discussing the purchase of a die. He said he was comparing two blueprints of the 6BR and the 6 Dasher. Whatever he was looking at said they were the same at the shoulder width.

The Dasher shoulder is .100 forward of the BR and and over .461 and the BR .4595. That is less than i size down to. This is too loose for an inline seater. I use an inline seater with shims KISS.method, and the die isn't top heavy. Use a chamber reamer and make your own, watch the form and get an old . 6mm,.243 wilson die or a blank 6mm..........jim

Spot on!

I think the important measurement is what the dasher measures .100 thousandths below the shoulder and the BR measures at the shoulder since that is where it will come to when inserted in the die.

Reply from Lynn:

"Gary:

If the loaded rounds are concentric you are good to go.I have seated bullets with a neck sizing die by accident and won a match with them.

The Wilson seater for my current 6 Dasher started out as a 6 BR seater and when I ran the reamer in with my $40 Black-Decker 3/8 inch lathe it barely produced any chips at all.

Remember it fits all 6 Dasher chambers with the key word being ALL.

If it doesn't shoot let me know as I have a 10 year supply of 6br seaters lying around.

Lynn"

Lynn, thanks for the kind words. I've got 100 6mmbr cases to load for a match this next weekend in Memphis. I'll check the concentrcity and see what it measures. If it doesn't work out, I have a Redding micrometer seater also. I just like the hand dies better.
