6mm dasher loads

Hey guys I'm looking for alittle help on loads. I shot a 5shot group and 1000 yards last month that measured 1.733". I shoot 31.5gr of RL15 with a precision ballistics 105 VLDS. .010 jam. I know this is a pretty good group. But most of our matches are out to 600 yards and I can't get under a 1.750" group at 500 and 600 yards, shooting in the 1.400's" at 400. Is there a Better load I can try that will get my groups in the 1" or lower that those distances without messing up my 200&300 yard groups, they are in the .4-.8" range.

dont change your load....(1.7xx @ 1000 !!!!).!!!...practice more at 600 and the groups will magically get better..Roger

The problem lies in the gun. Stop shooting it now! Package it up and send it to my FFL. I'll send you a money order for a buck-three-eighty and we'll be square. Problem solved!

Being great at reading wind flags and conditions is key to small groups at ANY distance. I know that I have a loooong way to go before I'm any good at it!

Thanks for the advice Roger. I really thought about using a different load but I will try shooting more at those distances first. I appreciate the offer Jerry but I think I will have to pass on that generous offer. Lol

While your 1000 yrd load is something we all search for, give Varget(I'm running 32.9grs) and Berger 105 hybrids, jumped 15 to 20 thousands...gives me pretty consistent 1.5" groups, some better at 600. While some may call me crazy, but I've often found one load that shoots at 600 may not always shot as well at 1000 and vise versa...

My 1000 yard loads always worked great at 600 yards, but I can say that there have been a few times that my 600 yards didn't always work well @ 1K.

I shoot way more 600 yd. BR matches than 1000 yd. matches but I've found that my best 600 yd. loads usually give too much vertical at a 1,000 yds . My best 1,000 yd. loads my give good scores at a 600 yds . (depending on conditions) but don't group very well at 600 yds. . I know this probably doesn't make sense but it's what I've seen in my experience. I learned early that I can't take my best 600 yd. loads and shoot 1,000 yd. matches and expect to do very well.

I would not judge the guns accuracy from that 1.7'' group. The bullets have to land somewhere. Look at your aggs. 1.5-1.75 at 600 as an average is extremely good. That should win most matches if you can read conditions.

Good lord...and you want help?

WE want your help. I win local 1,000 yard shoots with a Dasher that might shoot 4" groups out that way if all goes well. Sure I can shoot tiny clusters at shorter ranges but way out at 1,000 there are too many factors involved.

My take is you got lucky with a few or maybe one group. Keep it in your pocket. Your 600 yard groups will at times be better but they sure seem good to me right now.

You are good.

Curious as to your velocity with that. Would seem slow/sub2,900fps.

Sounds about right, QL gives me 2959 with my dasher data using that amount of RL15.

We have a match this weekend at 500&600 yards and a 600 yard f-class match in two weeks so I guess I will leave it alone and see how I shoot instead of worrying about changing loads right now.

I have one question, how many 1.7" groups have you shot at 1000? If you can shoot in the zeros at 100 yd you should be around .6 at 600 yds. i've shot a lot of small groups at 1000 as small as 2" with a barrel that will shoot 10 in a .085 at 100and it doesn't get an smaller the further you go. That barrel was under .6 at 500 yds. The conditions control the group size, and it sure helps to have a hummer barrel.
With a .4- .8 at 200 yds. sounds like a .2 at 100 yds sound about right for what you get at 600. I know one guy that shot a small one at 1000 yds. i think it was under 3/4 for 5 shots but not at a match,he carries that group in his wallet......... jim

I've only shot that one time at 1000 just got the rifle in September. I shot two 5 shot groups with it the second one was 2.155. There was perfect weather conditions that day and I know luck had a lot to do with it at that range but just can't figure out why I shoot such low aggs. at 1,2&3 hundred then it opens up the way it does at 3,5&6 hundred. And the one time I have shot it at 100 it was in the .1's the rifle shoots it must just be me not doing something right at does ranges.

Sure roger would be happy to. It's a BAT model B action with a 28" bartlien 1-8" twist on the last stock that the late Gary west built. I'm shooting 31.5gr rl15 and precision ballistics 105 VLD's seated .010 into the lands.
