6mm Dasher Loads

Been lurking a while, gents.

Have a couple of questions that are kind of off subject.

Have any of you shot the Dasher in a shorter barrel? I'm thinking 18"-22".

If you have, what velocities have you been getting with 95s, 105s, 110s, etc?

I'm planning on building a short(er) Dasher rifle that will be suppressed 90% of the time. It will be used for PRS style and long range rucking type matches.

Thanks in advance!
+1........This is the exact build i have been thinking about and wanting to run suppressed as well. Interested in knowing about 18-20 inch dasher as well

Very accurate fire forming load.

27" Kreiger 4 groove .237, 7.5 twist. With .155 throat.
30 gr. Varget
105 Berger vld
205 primers
Jammed nice and hard.

32.6 I think and 32.9 gr. of Varget.
110 SMK
205M primer

Shot the 32.9 load in a match with windy switching conditions at 300 yards and one wind flag out of 14 shooters. I came in 2nd with a 397 17X. 1st place had a 397 23x.
I am going to move the bullet out 10 thou. more for the next match and move to 33 gr. of Varget. 3rd Saturday of this month I'll report back.
Very close to 3000 fps right now.

Shooting a savage with a 28" 4 grove shilen barrel. Current loads single digit SE & ES with RL 17

107 SMK's, .010 off the lands. HBN coated.
Lapua Brass 35.5 g RL 17 - 3065 - 3100fps based on temp
Norma Brass 35.4g RL17 - 3065 - 3100fps based on temp

i started at 31.4 grains, based on what others around me are shooting. found the load I usually at 32.8 grains. Barrel sped up a bit after break in and i5 seems like the 2nd firing on the brass is a tiny bit faster as well. I ended up dropping my charge to 32.2. Sd is under 5 from 31.1 to 31.4

last group measured 2.76 inches at 1100 yards. this rifle was built for PRS use and will likely never see a bench. But I can definately see how this barrel would probably do well.

Has anyone ever lost (split or other) a 6 BR Lapua case while Hydro forming into 6 Dasher cases?

I am having a br converted to dasher it’s an 8.5” twist so I’m limited to 95gr vld’s. What is everyone’s recipe for this bullet.

I’ve shot a many matches with a 8.5 twist and Berger 105 and 108 bullets. They shoot really well to be honest.
Start around 37.0 Varget and work up from there once you have fire formed brass

James, I think 37.0 of Varget with a 105 or a 95 gr. is a bit on the high side. (especially for a starting load)

Fire forming load (after hydro dye) 30 gr varget 107 smk 2500fps (14" pistol)
32 gr varget 2575 fps. Holds 1/2 moa out to 500yds with almost 2k down the tube.

After reading this thread I worked up to 32.8 grains of RL-15 Berger 105 VLD ...although avg 2907 was not crazy fast I really like how it shoots...Thanks for all the info !!

I don’t shoot a dasher but a 6Br and a 6.5×47. A powder that is often overlooked is Norma 203B. I have been shooting it for 2 years and prefer it over Varget. It is real close to RL 15 and some blogs say it’s the same powder in a different container! I have had good results with it. Powder Valley has it Sometimes!

I've been working with RL-16 in the Dasher and I must say that I'm impressed with this powder. Charges over a broad range tend to shoot very well. I've corresponded with Donovan Moran, who has done quite a bit of work with this powder in the Dasher, and he has observed that scatter nodes with this powder tend to shoot very well, much better than with most other powders and this may lead to frustration in trying to pinpoint the middle of a stable node. Based on my experience over the last several months of load development and mid range matches, I'm 100% behind his observation. The linearity of velocity with this powder is something to see. I just wish it were more dense or Alliant would produce a short cut version of the formulation - charge weights over 35.2 gr. require the use of a drop tube. On the good side, I don't think it's possible to get enough in the case to get you in trouble.

Anyway, I've settled on 35.6 gr. of RL-16 behind a Berger 105 gr. VLD, Tula SRM primer and Lapua brass. Velocity is 2,960-ish with excellent stats and I'm pleased with the accuracy in my rifle. 35.9 gr. shoots very well, too, but I have to check every round after seating to verify seating depth. Some 200 yd. load development targets (5 shots)....

The first target is a validation group for 35.6 gr.
