6mm Dasher Build Questions

I am certain this has probably been hashed out more times than anyone cares to acknowledge but I can't seem to find the specific answers I am looking for in scanning old forums so here it goes: I would like to build a Dasher and have reserved a place in line to have a barrel with a 7.5 twist made by Hart in NY. They have done quite a few barrels for me and I have always been pleased with their work so I will go to them again. I would like to use a Remington action. I have a couple on the shelf but just want to make sure I am not overlooking something silly. First, all I should need is a S/A with a normal .308 bolt face correct? The actions on my shelf have already been trued so they should be good to go. My second question if you will is when it comes to feeding this rifle. I would like to make this magazine fed. Most likely something on a badger type mag setup with ai mags. I have a few other rifles with systems like that and they seem to work quite well. Is there anything special I will need to do or buy to get the dasher to feed well? I have a few other br calibers but all on single shot actions so I have never tried to feed this short of case from a magazine. If it's any concern I'm going to be using a McMillan stock and can have it inlet for whatever I decide as far as bottom metal is concerned. Third, it appears there are sometimes ejection issues, are these resolved by going to a sako extractor so it's not wanting to pull to the bolt raceway as bad? Fourth, when discussing chamber dimensions, I know this can get particularly mottled with personal preferences and differences but I am looking to shoot 105's or 107's most likely, maybe upto 110's. From my reading it appears anything from about .104 freebore to .155 is going to work reasonably well. What say the experts? I am leaning more towards the .155 so I can keep the bullet up a little farther and not bury the bearing surface quite as bad. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks all. Roman.

FIRST: What is the rifle going to be used for? If you are opting for a magazine, I am guessing for steel plate shooting?

there aren't really any prs type shoots around here but I thought I might start practicing that type of shooting so steel plate would be correct but primarily just target shooting and some varmint work, pdogs etc.

The .308 bolt face action will work.

What brass are you using???
I have a ton of fired 6br brass from other rifles that I figured id use to get started in the dasher world, then ill use new lapua and form the dasher specifically once I get the hang of the round.

I would contact someone who is well versed in the PRS field. The reason is, is that getting the freebore correct to have the bullets to be able to get close to the lands as well as way off the lands AND keep the bearing surface above the neck / shoulder junction, while running thru a magazine, is a calculation you don't want to get wrong!

My current PRS rifle is a Dasher with a 0.135 freebore. I shoot the 115 DTACs but the 105s shoot incredible out of it too. My action is a Bighorn so I cant help with the Rem 700 issues. As far as mags go, I use the American Rifle Company double stack mags with the curved follower. I got a couple of 6BR mag kits for my AICS mags. The Primal Rights kit feeds flawlessly. Another brand sticks if you load 10 rounds. I didn't make notes of where I got the one that sticks. PM me if you want info on that one. Hope that helps some.

7.5 twist will work fine with 105-115 grain bullets.

Mini m-16 is better than a sako extractor, both will be much better than an r700 style.

You really want/need a small firing pin for Dasher.

Dasher might feed fine from standard AICS, but you might need to mess with the feed lips. The magazine kits can help. I can run AICS (with it without kits), Arc Mags and Magpul aics magazine with some tuning.

Don't plan on using you old brass, it won't work. The necks/shoulders will split. Get virgin brass.

Also and most important, find a Smith that has done Dasher/6br repeaters. The stock fitting can mess with feeding from a magazine. The reamers are all different and there is no standard.

It's a lot of work to get them running.

Sell the Remington’s on the shelf and get a Bighorn Origin or TL3. Bighorns work great for feeding and ejecting 6br family.
Mag fed, mechanical eject... just what ya need with no fuss. Modified magpul mags work great for me.
At first I chose the battle and tried to get a rem to work. I could get it to feed ok but not eject. With the Bighorn Origin only being $825 and as easy as it is to make work, it’s a no brainer. You’d love it.
