6mm Creedmoor Range Day

I picked up a cheap deal on a Savage Axis 2 from a friend in .308. I don't really like these Walmart specials so I figured I would try and do something interesting with it. I re-barreled with a 1:7.7 X-Caliber barrel, fully blueprinted the action, chambered it in 6mm Creedmoor. I also bedded it in a premium Boyds stock and topped it off with an Arken SH4 scope.

I worked the ladder today and the group pictured below is 3 shots at 100 yards, the chronograph showed 3000 fps average. I could push it faster but the group immediately started opening up, so 3000 fps it is!

This was the sweet spot--
Berger 105gr VLD Hunter
Lapua Brass
CCI #450 MAG Primers
43 grains of 4831-sc
OAL 2.250

Try some of that H4350 you have on your shelf

2950fps from a 22 inch barrel. I dont have the pics anymore of the groups but all were 1/4 or so. I found my best charge at 40.8gr with ADG brass
What ever happened with adg brass ? I don’t see it anywhere or see many talking about it. I browsed their site today and they don’t even offer 6 creed anymore

Im not sure. I know they had stated 2 years ago that they were not offering any 308 bolt faced cases for time being so they could focus on other cartridges. I have not looked since i was looking for 6.5 prc brass. Ended up finding Lapua first. I guess im glad i got 150 pieces of the 6mm when i did. I dont shoot it often so should last years.

I have been using 6.5 CM Starline brass and then neck it down to 6mm CM. I have been using Starline brass for over 5 years now and find it very good brass and have go about 20 reloads per case before the necks start to split. Yes, I do anneal the brass.

6mm Creedmoor is practically the same as the 243win, only more modern design. All load data for both cartridges is the same to boot... thus...

ALL my 243win rifles / barrels love 43 gr of H-4831 / H-4831sc with 105's. NO EXCEPTIONS. And since it's a lower node, it helps with throat erosion.
I have built 2 more 6mm Creeds since this one and you are RIGHT, they all LOVE 43gr 4831-sc with the 105s.

Some folks look for 3,100+ fps from the 6 cleedmoor/243win & 105/107/108 gr bullets...
Personally I am plenty happy at 2,950 ish fps. I get superb accuracy and longer barrel life... An extra 50 to 75 fps of supersonic ability is not worth the tradeoff in my opinion.

I ended up liking the 6mm CM AXIS build so much I built a lighter barrel "Little Brother" pictured on the right. Lighter barrel, much lighter scope. It loves the exact same load as the other!

I'm using VV N-555 now in my 6 Creedmoors but I have used IMR4350, H4350 & RL17. 40.7 of RL17 and a Berger 108 was good for a 10-shot group at 100 I could cover with a nickel. That was with a stock Ruger RPR. H4350 seems to be a tad more accurate in my GAP with Bartlein barrel. 555 is pretty darn close but takes about 2 grains more to get similar poi @ 200.
