6mm Creedmoor powders

Can I ask the OP a stupid question? If say RL-16, H4350 and VV N160 work well, why are you worried about getting a 100% fill? I had 2 / 6 Creedmoors that I used in 600 and 1000 yard competition, using the aforementioned powders. When the wind was not huffing and puffing, both shot very well out at both 600 and 1000 yards. Out of a 30" barrel the 115 DTACS were sailing at 3115 with no signs of pressure. Will a 100% fill do better than that? Just asking>>>>not criticizing..

I think if Joel were anywhere close to 3115fps with the 115's he's pretty close to 100%. Depending on his fb of course.

I'm only at 2990ish with 41.0grs of RL-16,Lapua SRP, CCI-450 and S&B primers, 115 HBN DATC's, 26" with around .150" fb.

What's your accuracy and SD. ?

They were at 6-7 S/D 10 shots, but that was around 600rds ago. Haven't checked them for S/D's sense then. Yesterdays outing I had a friend chronograph 2 shots to confirm speed and was 2990 and 3007, and that was after 150rds that day, so my S/D's may be a little higher. After 2200rds total on this barrel I may be changing it after the next outing.

gun pics.jpg I decided to see what my last 30 out of 200 for the day would do. So I fired 10 shots at each of the 3 dots with in a 20 minute time frame with 102 temps. Those are just at 100 yds and the rifle should do that at 200yds but I don't think it will do that anymore. So maybe 1 more outing and then the barrel gets switched out.

I'm not sure what went on with the center dots shot pattern for 10 rounds compared to dot #1 and #3. But I can assure you that's 10 shots, just an unusual pattern. The shots would go back and forth to different holes, ending up with groups of threes and one two. The other 2 dots shot had a normal pattern. Go figure.

That my friend is great info. That's the kind of information that makes accurate shooter so good.

I love the program, and when used properly, can attain astounding accuracy in velocity prediction. Well worth the money. What length barrel do you have? What brand brass (or H2O capacity)are you using? I will run your powders later today. after work.
I have a 28" kreiger with 7.5 T lapua brass, cci 450 primers. I shot it this weekend at 1135 fps . Group opened up a bit, but I still have room for more powder. Primers are still round. Didn't flatten them a bit

Id bet a good cleaning waaaay before you got to 200rds would help. You may not even need a new barrel unless thats the norm. 200rds and not cleaning will make one go bad in a hurry. If you were cleaning between groups, sorry!

I pretty much give my rifles a very thorough cleaning after every outing. Weather they were fired 50rds or 250rds. This 6mm Creedmoor does seem to produce a carbon ring that I've been cleaning extra careful. So it's possible that at 180rds it becomes an issue pertaining to accuracy.

Are you looking at your barrel with a bore scope regularly? I'm getting a lot of heat cracking in the first two inches even running low pressures? I've been working with this on the 6mm Creedmoor through several barrels, but finding that a 6cm is a lot like a 6 5 284 when it comes to accurate barrel life.

You guys using RL16 right?

I've heard RL16 is apt to produce carbon rings.

I've used RL16 and I'm now testing slower burning powders that are a bit bulky to take up case capacity. What I'm seeing in my testing is that a case that's full has lower extreme spread much like the 6bra and 6 dasher. H4350 was a barrel burner, RL16 is a bit bulkier and about the same speeds, but not as consistent as H4350. RL16 was still a barrel burner at the same muzzle velocity. I'm testing RL23 atm, but think that RL26 might be a better choice. Not certain yet as I can't get RL26 in my hands yet.

Im running H4831SC at +100% case capacity, it's averaging in the .3s with low pressure and .003" throat erosion and zero fire cracking in 350 rounds.

I've been thinking about trying RL26 but why mess with a great load.
My 7 twist AR10 barrel will be here tomorrow, I might just try RL26 in it with 110s. (It'll have an adjustable gas block. )

Like I said earlier rl19 was a winner until 75°.

Yes there is quite a bit of heat cracking. But I also haven't been babying it either, so I'm sure that's one reason.
