6mm Creedmoor Load Question

I'm starting initial load development for a 6mm Creedmoor. I've looked at several forums and posts to find load data. I'm comparing info for 6mm Creedmoor, 6XC and 6x47 to find a starting point.

Most of load data I've found for the 6mm Creedmoor suggests H4350 in 41+ grains for the Berger 105's.

My initial loads were 39.6 and 39.8 H4350 for the Berger 105's (VLD hunting) and Amax 105's. I'm using BR2 primers. I did not have a chrono to get velocity. I'm seeing moderate signs of flattened primers and swirl marks on the primers. No sticky bolt.

Am I overpressure already, or is this still a conservative load? I have not checked to see if the spent cases have loose primer pockets, but that's my next step.

Bullets seated at 20 thousands off the lands, was getting approx. .3-.5 groups at 100 on the initial break in.

Remington 700 action
Criterion"Remage" Barrel - 24 inches

No problems with 40-42 gr H4350, 105 berger hybrid & Federal 210M in my 6 CM.

Barrel is .237 5R bartlein. Is your barrel .237 or .236? If .236 you're going to develop more pressure for same load.

I have been shooting 6mm Creedmoor in a Gap-10 for about two years now. My go to load is 41.7 gr H-4350 with the Hornady boattail hollow point match bullets. I use CCI standard primers. This rifle has a 23" Bartlein with 7.7 twist. Velocity is running right around 2900 fps. It shoots 5.8 to 6.0 mils at 850 yards depending on the DA. Right around 3.1 for the 600 yard targets. I enjoy shooting this rifle a great deal.

What die set do you use for reloading your 6.0 Creedmoor? Thanks

Hornady and Sierra have published 6mm Creedmoor load data on their respective websites. Google it. I emailed Berger this month and they replied that don't have 6mm Creedmoor load data nor do they have an ETA for the data. Odd, since the Berger 105gr hybrid is one of the most widely used bullets in 6mm Creedmoor.

The reamer print show bore size to be .2368.

This is a Pacific Tool reamer.

It doesn't matter what the print states, it how the reamer measures. I would also check the neck diameter in the chamber against the neck diameter of a loaded cartridges. It's just on more place which could raise the pressure.

New barrels often show some initial signs of pressure until they break in, sometimes taking a couple of hundred shots.

Regards.

I was happy with 42 grains H4350 and the 105 Hybrid until I did a ladder test with RL16. RL16 provided better accuracy, velocity and lower ES/SD. I am using 42 grains RL16 but you should work up your own data. Drop back to 40 grains and work up in small increments.
As your rifle is an R700 action, do not put much faith in "reading primers" on fired cases. The R700 is notorious for having oversize firing pin holes that will feign pressure problems. Best way to find over pressure is by measuring case heads with a blade mic and checking primer pockets for stretching.

send that Rem bolt to Greg Tannell and it will be as good as a Bat,Stolle Panda or whatever on the primer cratering deal,,

Like others said. Don’t put a lot of faith into primer appearance.

Use CCI 450s

First barrel = 41.45gr h4350
Second barrel = 42.30gr h4350

Hornady 105gr BTHP. 25tho jump

Both barrels 26” 1:8 twist. Velocity 3130 and 3160 respectively. Ladder was used to find nodes.

Addendum: what brass are you using?

My wife shoots 41.4grs H4350 with those VLDH Bergers, I use 41.3grs with 105JLKs and new BN coated DTACs, yeah, 39.8grs is a bit light, when you start getting a sticky bolt back down a full grain. Don't worry so much about speed, accuracy is everything.

I worked up to 41.5 with 4350. Right at 3000 fps and still getting .4-.5 moa at 100. I'm happy with that. Anyone tried the 103 ELDX yet?

We started at 41.1 H4350 last night & was at 3100 MV, 41.5 started seeing flat primers & ejector swipe. each rifle is different, work up slowly & keep checking brass. we had factory Hornady 103's blow primers out back last weekend.

I just loaded some of my 'Match' loads for this weekends 600BR Comp, 41.3grs H4350(like I said in my previous reply) shoots like this at 200yds. 3 shots my wife took. And I shot the 5 shot group a few weeks ago with Alpha brass and 40.6grs H4350.

Nice groups there. What is your take on the Alpha brass? Have you compared it with others? Is decreased capacity an issue?
