6MM Creed or 243

I run, 80's, 95's and 108's in my 1-7.5 twist, 6XC and all 3 Bullets, "Bug Hole" for me ( some bug Holes, Bigger than others ). IT's lots of Fun, weighs 10 pounds Braked, real Pleasant to shoot and should "Run" about, 1,000 Bullets, MORE than, the .243 Win. The 6 Creed is "Close" on round count, for sure.
Probably, Powder "Heat" and Quality of Barrel Steel, are, the bigger, Factors.

Uses about, 2 or, 3 grains LESS Powder and HAS,.. a Longer Neck

I just compared notes. We have a maximum difference of 1 grain of powder, for the same fps, for the 115 and 107.

Maybe my 6XC barrel is a fast. I'm not sure, but we don't have a 2-3 grain disparity.

I use Hogdon's, 6 Creed Load Data for my 6 XC,.. so, I "start" at, 2-3 grains "Under" the Creed Load's, in My 6 XC to work up, Loads. Excuse my, lack of Memory on, ACTUAL,.. "Difference's" as,.. I "could be",.. Wrong.
6X47, 6XC, or 6 Creed,.. ARE ALL,. easier on Barrels than, the "Antique", .243 Win, tho

What does one offer over the other if both are 1-8 twist barrels? Barrel life? Accuracy? I have had several 243 rifles that were tackdrivers but I never uses especially heavy bullets. In my case I have plenty of 243 brass and no 6MM Creedmoor brass. I also already have several sets of 243 dies. So would the difference be enough to make it worth buying a couple hundred pieces of brass and a set of dies? And for the off the wall question does the 6MM Remington compare favorably to the 6MM Creedmoor? The bullet might have to be seated a bit deeper but the case capacity would still be more.

I've shot quite a bit of .243 for long range. It feeds really well in the PMags. I mostly shot 105 RDF and 105 Hdy Match, they performed really well out to 1,300 yards.
I spec'ed out a .243 reamer JGS made for me, I chambered a 7 twist 22" barrel with it.
I'm going to start testing it tomorrow.
I made the freebore diameter and neck smaller and the freebore length is .130".
We'll see how it goes.

Most NEVER entertain the idea of the "Turbulence Point"....big mistake.

6 XC with a .400 long neck is a marriage that is incredible when it comes to extending barrel life, 308 brass of any kind, Paul Bike form dies.

Do not sweat it. As long as the twist rate is 7.5-8, both calibers are almost identical. Just send it.

If your shooting from a mag that limits your COAL, then go Creedmoor.
It's what it was designed for.

BUT....

If your shooting a bolt action & have some room in the magazine, i'd go 243 Win everytime. Especially if you already have brass & dies for it.

I have 6xc 6*284 and several others but I believe the op asked about 6 creedmoor or .243 I have a couple 6 creeds and really like them but I also have .243’s and really like them too, if you already have everything for a .243 order a 1:7-1:8 twist barrel and keep your .243

Build what you want, barrels are a consumable and IMO the difference in life is probably going to depend more on how many fast strings you shoot than on case design for similar capacities.

The action is a Remington 700 so a bit short. But I don't plan to use any bullet longer than the 105 gr. HPBT match bullet so mag length isn't a real issue. The longest range I can shoot at is 600 yards so some shorter bullets would probably be OK. I was just wondering if there is a real accuracy edge thay any one of these three might have over the other or if one gets markedly better barrel life.

You got everything you need for the .243 so just build one. At the same velocities the barrel life will be the same between the 6 Creed and .243. The 6 Creed advantages are when wanting to shoot factory ammo for long range and when buying a rifle to do that as the 6 Creed rifles come with faster twist barrels for the heavies versus the slow twists in factory .243s. I used the .243 for years in matches and also use the 6 Creed now so have a good deal of experience with both.

For 600 yards both will do the job. And with the 105 BTHP you won't be overly long with either when loaded. You can easily load them to mag length.

If your custom building the rifle the world is your oyster. Use a long action, cut the throat to fit your desired bullet and use what you want. If you're stuck to an 8 twist you're not running the real heavy 6mm bullets.

The 6MM Remington has the capacity and if you can print 1 1/16" at 300 yards varmints and medium game are easy work. Remington brass is everywhere, the quality of the brass may not be benchrest but certainly more than woworkable. The SAAMI pressures on a 6MM Remington is 65,000PSis that is magnum pressures but barrel life for a hunting rifle is still pretty good 2,500+ or-.

The 243 in my opinion is no longer a viable choice unless you already own it. A custom 243 for heavy bullets would require a long action to be a repeater. 6MM ARC in a bolt gun runs 62,000PSI works in a short action with less powder, in the 243 power range.

The 243AI, again a custom build required to get it done right and there are better choices. In my opinion the 6MM ARC is really an about as good as it currently gets in a 6MM gas gun AR15 cartridge.

The 6MM Creedmoor if it's a hunting rifle why bother? However if it's a range gun makes sense.

No it doesn't. Ran one for years and still have one in a short action and works fine. Have run 105-115s in it with a short action.

The base of the bullet would have to be below the donut then.

The problem with the 243 is the short neck. Donuts. Donuts man!!! It is a real thing. It is basically impossible to not have a donut problem after a few reloads. The bullet is always below the shoulder.

The 6xc has the same neck and shoulder as a 6br at . 300" long. No donut problems.

Never had a donut in my match rifle's brass. I have reloaded brass over 6 times and no issues. I only have one .243 barrel now and it's not on the rifle so not worried about it but the .243 is a viable option if he wants to stay with it.
