6mm Comp Match and Ramshot Magnum

Hey Folks I wanted to let you know the results of some simple testing I did with Ramshot Magnum powder and the 6mm Competition Match.

I did a quick load work up using the chronograph and looking for the flat spot in the velocity (re: 6.5guys video with Scott Satterlee). I found a flat spot around 49.9gr (please do not try this load in your rifle, work up safely to this amount).

I ended up with a load for the 115gr Dtac (yes HBN coated) that averaged 3085fps, ES=6fps, SD=2.4fps. Oh, by the way these are the results when loaded full progressive on a Dillon 550 using the Dillon Powder Measure. After I got my elevations I only had 3 rounds left and they went into a 1.5" group at 300yards on a day when the wind was averaging 12mph and variable from 10 oclock to 2 oclock. This group was shot off of the bench, using my range bag as a rest.

I also noted that this powder burns very cleanly. It seems to be at least as clean as H1000 and way, way cleaner that Carbon26, oh I'm sorry you probably call it RL26.

Anyway, just wanted to share my results from my limited testing.

I think you'll discover some temperature sensitivity with that powder, but it may not matter for your application. Be interested in hearing your results if you decide to test for this. It does meter nice, and has produced excellent velocities for a given pressure, and excellent results on target in every case I've used it in.

@TUFFLUCK I'll pay attention to the temperature, though I don't know that I'll ever notice it. I'm using my 6mm Comp Match for NRA HighPower so unless it is REALLY temperature sensitive, I don't know if I can hold well enough to notice it.

But I guess in fairness I do notice when my fire form loads (with Rl26) cause the barrel to need cleaning. In about 125 rounds of ammo with RL26 the groups go from nice and tight and on call, to 2-3 times larger and always off call. Clean the bore and it's fine.

I also found a load for the 95gr SMK with a node at the bottom of the velocity range. It recoils about as much as a .223 - perfect for 200yards.

Thanks again,
Ross

Can you buy it again. It was non-existent for a while in my area.

I use it in a custom 6mm-06 imp hunting rifle I built with a Rock Creek barrel. Shooting 105 A-max's I could keep it at or under 1/2 MOA fairly consistently in the summer (70 degree days). When it gets cold out, that load opens up to 3/4-1.
