Ramshot TAC

I have been doing a 308 load with this powder and 155 SMK palmas. I was using the load data on the Ramshot website. What I find interesting is the max load on Ramshots website is way over the Sierra data. Am I all screwed up or what. I know on the sierra data they use Federal cases that are suppose to be more like nato brass in terms of volume. I have been using some Lithuanian brass and I am over the Sierra data by almost 2 grains and no over pressure signs in my Savage with a LW barrel. If someone could help me understand this, I am only guessing its a volume thing with the case? By the way the Litho brass I am using is almost nato spec?

One way to compare brass is to weigh it. Generally heavier brass, of the same caliber, has less internal volume.

JR, Ramshot Tac has given me my fair share of heartache. I had decided to try it due to the limited availability of Varget and its attractive price. I have been using weight sorted and fully preped Rem brass with CCI-BR2 and Fed-215 mag primers and have had only minor success. I was instructed to use the Mag primers due to the powder/load density. I was also told that when using powder with extreamly small granual size, that a full case of powder wasnt as desirable as with the larger granual and stick powders. Evidently you have to leave some room for the hot gas and spark from the primer to get around the charge to allow for complete ignition. Not the case with stick powder creating a lower density case fill due to the air space created throughout the charge from the larger particle size.
While I am not using a custom barrel or action, it is a proven 3/4 moa rifle with Benchmark and Varget with the 168 SMK, 165 SST and the 155 Lapua Scenar.
It has been my experience that the nodes are vary narrow windows where a very small varience in bullet berring surface will effect the group significantly. I am not a serious competative shooter but I am an accuracy fan and I do spend a fair amount of time on brass prep, I do feel this is importanat.
Ramshot Tac has not impressed me in the least. If you are a glutten for punishment or just like to kill time at the range, it will serve that purpose. For me it was a big NOGO.
I hope you have better luck if you have already made your purchase.

Hope this helps.

I have been real happy with TAC but I use 168 smk and 155 palmas. Have had a .372 5 shot string with the 168s and getter there with the Palmas.I use Winny primers with great results. Use Winny primers and see if you get better results?

TAC has been good to me mostly in my .223 shooting with 23.5grains behind 60 VMaxes and 24.5 behind 69gr Sierra HPBT, Lapua and BR4s.

Have not tried TAC in 6mmBR and do not intend to.

I know this is not exactly what you are looking for but I have had great succes with TAC in 223 and 204. I bought 23 pounds of it for $10 a pound a couple years back from Midway, for use in my ARs. I was looking for a powder that would shoot okay for cheap. What I got was a powder that performed almost as well as my best loads in the 223, sub half inch groups from my Savage 12 BVSS. When I got my first 204, it became obvious that what worked well in the 223 would work well in the 204. I get sub 3/8' groups using TAC and a 32 gr. BK in the 204.
