6mm classic info request

Howdy, while cruising the shelves at my lgs, I found a bag of used brass head stamped '6mm Classic'. I've not encountered this round before. Is it proprietary or related to...? The case almost looked like a short 222. Thank you, e.

post a picture please, especially if you can put a similar case next to it for reference.

Howdy !

To me…it looks like a 6BR formed on a parent case that is not .308Win family.
In other words… a non-.308 case formed as a new “ wildcat “; using a
6BR die.

I’d have to research the Lt case’s extractor groove, for a visual match on exactly
What the parent case is.

There is a possibility that the 6mm “ Classic’s “ parent case has a slightly smaller
base diam than .470”…. but that is not visually obvious.

If I get the chance, I’ll look into it in more detail.

Others here might recognize the “ Classic’s rim & extractor groove, and weigh-in ?

Howdy !

Well… I did look into things a bit further….

I don’t think the parent case for the “ Classic “ is .35 Remington.
I found a pic of a .308 case compared alongside of a .35 Remington.
While the extractor groove height of the .35 Remington case seemed to be a match, the rim thickness is greater in the “ Classic “; than it is on the .35 REM.

I’m going to postulate, that the 6mm classic is formed on 7 X 57 family brass.

Howdy !

Well shoot…. “ open your mouth, and display your ignorance “….

I have seen and held 6BR along side 6PPC, and in-person….3D…and using stereoscopic vision; the 6BR had always looked noticeably larger ( to me ) in its major case’ diameters…than the 6PPC.

Notwithstanding…. this was a 2D exercise. After I returned home this p.m. , I did a more detailed attempt to visually measure & compare the 2 cases in 426Nut’s pic. I then did
see the disparity in measurements !

As regards my initial thoughts about whether the “ Classic “ might be based off
.35 Remington brass…

I have included a pic of a .35 Remington-based 6mm wildcat I have formed. It was designed to give case capacity between a 6PPC and a 6BR. I call it “ 6 PAC “.

A fun post, that got me thinkin’.

Now I'm curious too. I'm going to have to head back to the LGs with a set of calipers and a notepad. E.
