6MM BRX - Varmint Gun

I have a custom 6mm BRX smithed by Richard Franklin. It has a Nisika action with a Bartlein 1-13 tw barrel. The gun was built for Prairie Doggin'. I've fireformed about 300 cases,Lapua Brass) using some old Brigadier 322 powder and 65 gr Hornady V-max bullets. I'm just getting around to working up loads for dogs. Fireforming loads grouped from middle two's to low three's without too much work. Just wondering what suggestions might be out there for a good varmint load in this rig. Thanks for the help.

My coyote rifle,Remington Action and Pacnor 11 twist Super Match 26")loved the 68gr Berger and 32.5 grains of N135

I would love to see some pics of your rifle if you could...;)

I'll see if I can't get a pic or two - the rifle is one of a matched pair of switch barrel rifles. One is a Nesika K action with a 1-14 tw Kreiger 6mm Ackley and a second barrel 22br 1-13 tw Bartlein topped off with a Nightforce NXS 8-32 x 55. The second rifle is a Nesika J action with a 1-12,or 14) Bartlein in 6mm BRX and a second barrel that is a 22br with a 1-13.5 Bartlein topped off with a Nightforce NXS 8-32 x 55. Richard did a masterful job on the rifles and they are very accurate. The 22BR's both shoot in the mid to low 2's consistently and occasionally shoot a little bughole 1. The 6 Ackley is around mid 3's.

btjensen,

I like a 70 Blitzking for my Franklin 6BR with N135. Varget,RL15, AA2460 would also work. With 13 tw a 80 gr bullet may be the limit, so 65 & 75 Vmax, 70 BT nosler.

My BRX's are 8 tw not sure what would work, but that should start you out. I am thinking about doing a 6BRX 14 tw.

I've shot thousands of prairie dogs with a 6 Dasher and 55 grain Ballistic Tips. H-322 and VV-133 works perfect with the 55's in the mid 3900's in 14 twist barrels. 70 grain and above you need to start slowing the powder down.
I shot up a 44 pound jug of 133 and I still feel so guilty I quit that and use AA-2230-C,same as AA-2460) with 70 grainer now. Economics come into play when you shoot over 4000 rds. a year at dogs.

Thanks for the advice guys. Most information on the 6 BRX is for heavy bullets and 600 yard shooting. There isn't much information avalable for light bullets on varmints in the BRX. So I thought I'd just hear what "people out there" might have to say.

I'll be going back to the reloading bench in the next week or two and start working on loads. It seems like I enjoy the journey of finding something that works almost as much as shooting at the dogs. I'll post something after going to the range. Good shooting to all.

BTW I'm still going to see if I can get a pic or two of the rifles.
