I have used the combination that you are referring to. 31.0 Gr's of Vita 140 for 2895 fps in a 8 twist 29 inch barrel. This is a max load in my Savage. 30 Gr's gives me 2800 fps.

Hi guys, I just joined this forum and also just got my 6BR sorted out after a bit of load development.

I'm getting 2960fps out of a 22.5" 1/8 twist barrel with a 108gr Berger, 30.2gr of ADI 2208 (Varget I'm pretty sure in the US). With the bullet .010" into the lands it's shooting very consistent .2-.3 MOA from 100-500m so far. I was getting 2630 with 29gr of the same powder and a slight jump into the lands but it was nowhere near as consistent.

This is a rifle I've built for tactical comps and I imagine it'll be pretty competitive out to 800m or so.

Cheers,
Greg

What length barrel do you have? Most 6BR shooters with strong single shot actions and 28" barrels are getting at least 2800 fps. Have you tried increasing powder loads to get closer to this? It should powder foul less, and give less wind drift.

No wonder so many 6BR shooters are disappointed with the velocities they're getting - someone comes along and posts they're getting 2960fps with 108s....and out of a 22.5" bbl. yet.

Hi its a Unique Alpine TPG1 with a 27'' 1/8 twist barrel so i should be looking around 2800/2950fps for good groups then. I would need to go to 31g of N140 with a SMG 107 for that would the pressure be ok

Andy

My savage shoots 28 gr. of Varget for 2650 fps. Not fast, but the best accuracy I can get with Varget and 105 A Max. Any more powder than that and the groups open up quickly. I just think it is a barrel quirk.

My panda with a 28" Broughtn is getting 2875 with 107SMK coated with 30.7gr of Varget behind it. This is with new Lapua brass.

.112" freebore for the heavies

31gr yielded 2950fps but groups opened up. When you hit the upper window with the 6BR case, small increases in powder charge show pretty significant gains.

Be careful when working up loads, ALL rifles are different in what they like and when they decide to pressure up.

Andy, welcome to the forum.

Speed and accuracy are two different things. If you were shooting long range then it would matter, but since you are only shooting 100 yards then I don't think it matters. If your load is accurate then don't worry about the speed. If you decide to go to 31.0 gr N140, make sure you work up to that load watching for pressure sings.
