I just received 200 of the new Blue Box 6 mm BR cases and if I remember correctly they measured 1.555" .

Reloading Forum (All Calibers) / Lapua 6BR brass...Old vs New
« on: 09:11 PM, 03/04/11 »

I just measured some "new" paper box brass and some new "Blue" box. I know of the neck thickness issues with the new but I was surprised to find the following:

The new Blue box brass I have has the shoulder set back .003" compared to the old brass. 1.068" old case / 1.065" new case. This was measured in a Hornady head space gauge with Sinclair SS inserts. And the OAL was 1.556 old brass 1.553 new brass, the exact .003" difference I found in the shoulder set back.

My latest batch of 6mmbr Lapua brass was purchased 3-4 months ago. That means I have purchased both the brown and blue boxed Lapua 6br Norma Brass in the past. I check each and every piece of brass I buy and before reloading each piece. I use a Starret Caliper to check the length, a Mitoyoto Ball Micrometer and an RCBS Precision Mic to check the shoulders. Over the past two years I have only noted a slight decrease in the wall thickness of new Lapua Brass, but the length is still 1.555 and has not changed, at least according to my gauges. I would recommend you get hold of Kevin Thomas, the Western states Lapua Rep who blogs here as well. I'm certain Kevin can answer any questions you may have regard any Lapua products.

I just opened a new blue box.. 97pieces measured 1.555, 3pieces were shorter, the shortest 1.542

And it doesnt mean a thing for accuracy as .013 isnt much to be overly concerned about.
