6mm BR in IBS competition

Am building 6mm BR Norma for IBS HV Competition. Stolle/Panda action. Kreiger 1 turn in 14 inch barrel. Would like best possible reloading info using 68 grain Bart's bullets and 68 grain Berger bullets. Lapua brass. I have VV 135 powder and Hodgdon 322. Any suggestions on these combinations would be a big help. Thanks.

Mr. Fred:

Keep us posted as to what she likes. I am getting one soon with a 1-14 twist too and will be trying the lighter bullets you mentioned as well. Thanks.

I`ve had great luck with 135/barts combo,68gr. .015-.020 into the lands and 3400+ fps...Many 3 shots groups into the zero`s...chris308

Finally received my rifle built by Shooters Corner by Bob White in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. Stolle/Panda action s.s. barrel. Leupold 45X scope. McMillan glass stock.
First shots at 200 yards to break rifle in showed potential. Groups averaged 3/4 inch. Using VVN135 powder. 68 grain Bart's Ultra Lapua Brass. Fed. 205M primers. Approximately 3100 fps. Shot first IBS match early June. Groups aggd .41 inches. Many in the 3's, none in the 2's as of yet, promising load seems to be H322 28 grains Bart's 68 grain match CCIBR4 primers. Shooting on better day practice shot my first bug hole, got excited, threw the 5th one out, group size .309
Haven't shot any 2's yet but still working on loads and my benchrest form.
This gun has great potential. Any ideas or comments, please advise. Thanks Bob White and Shooters Corner for building a great gun.

My 1 in 14 Hart likes 2105 with the 68 Bergers, and it likes N133 even better. Rem 7 1/2 primers seemed better than 205m's, but I have very limited testing with different primers.

The N133 with 68 Bergers, three different primers, and different seating depths has averaged .306.

Getting ready for benchrest match, weekend of 7/21. Testing to find best load. I think I came up with a surprise. Load is AA 2015 28 grains CCIBR 4 primer 68 grain Bart's match bullet 2.180 OAL. Shot consistent 3's, high 2's. Using CCIBR 4's because of scarcity of Fed 205M. The velocity of load approximately 3200 FPS. Very consistent.
Any ideas please respond.

I shot 6 Br 1/14 for several years in NBRSA . I found that AA 2015 worked better than H322 unless it was army surplus H322.
I have not tried any of the new lots of either in several years so the burn rates may have changed.

Looking forward to another match August 25. IBS HV group will be using Watson 68 grain bullets with A2015 powder 28 grains CCIBR 4 primers. Hoping for high 2's, low 3's for my 5 shot group aggs. Have already ordered 1 lb. Varget to try along with Watson 68's to see if it makes a difference. Does anybody have experience with Varget?
Thanks for your help.

I'm just getting started on my combo, 6BR, 12 twist Shilen, Savage Target action.
I started with 322 in 90+ ambient, shot very well, several 3 shot groups that barely showed the 3rd shot, but had some pressure issues at the load it liked.
Went to Varget, 33 gr I think, shot 5 five shot groups ranging from .16 to .24. Won the local match for score the next day!!! Seemed to burn dirty though and didn't drop well. Going to try H335 when I get a chance.

The 6BR's with 65-68's will hammer 'em into a small dot once you get enough N135 in there to get to around 3,400 fps. N135 really works in the upper pressure ranges in the 6BR. -Al

I've had great luck w/ H-322 and 66gr Knight bullets and 68gr Bart's Ultra. Will have to try some N-135 when I use up the rest of my H-322 supply.

Shot my benchrest match today 8/25/07. Absolutely best load I ever used is Varget 31 grains Watson 68 grain bullets. Seated .002 off the lands 5 shot group agg's .2924. Best 5 shot group .122. Speed estimated 3150 fps. Temperature 90+ degrees. Varget burns extremely clean. Gotta stay with this until something better comes along but its gonna take alot to beat this Varget.

Shooting in my last IBS match of the season, I decided to change my powder grains to 31.5 grains of Varget. Hoping that the extra speed will help to counter the late season winds but i'm still using Watson 68 grain bullets, CCI BR 4 primers. The Varget powder is temperature insensitive so I hope that when I shoot in the winter league at Central Jersy Range, this will be a big help. Will post results of final IBS match after 10-21-07. Mr. Fred

I have been shooting 68gr Barts Ultras, started with H-322 then tried H-335 which shot much poorer then tried BL-C2 which seemed to shoot pretty good but not good enough today at 200. I think my 3 target agg. was around .8 winds were switchy and no flags. I am very interest in how the Varget is doing although with 322 and BL-C2 I can just drop charges and not weigh as it meters to less than .1 gr variation don't know if I can do that with Varget.
James

Follow up results on match of 10/21/07. Increase of powder charge of Varget to 31.5 grains. Results in windy conditions were not good. I think I'm moving it too fast. Five shot group aggs were .343. Central Jersey match of 11/4, I'm going back to 31 grains Varget. Varget is definitely hard to meter out of my Culver powder measure but results are worth it. In fact, I think I'm going to lower the charge at least another half or full grain & check results at a later match. Only other variable in this benchrest match is my use of the Farley co-ax rest adapted to my Caldwell BR1000 rest.

Hi Fred:

I'm puzzled by the load of Varget you are using. I have shot over 4,000 rounds of 65-66-68 gr. bullets through my two 6 BRs with 1:14 twists and have never even tried using such a light load of Varget. My best loads have always been with 33.8 to 34.2 grains.

Varget works fine in my Harrell's BR measure, though not as good as Benchmark and about the same as H4198.

ReedG:
My reason for light load is that I am still looking for my velocity window. I shoot benchrest and am more concerned with accuracy than a lot of speed. Most reloading books show your loads are over maximum, but every gun is an individual and my IBS match of 12/2/07 will confirm whether my light load is the best load. If not, I will go to the other extreme and try your speedy stuff.
