6mm br bushing die to 30br

any reason I couldn't ream out the small area in my 6mm br die where the bushing sits, so I could size my 30br cases as well, by just changing bushings?
Thank you
Steve

I did the same thing to a 6.5X284 die to a straight 284 and the only issue was the hardness of the steel in the die. My gunsmith had to get a special reamer to cut the stuff. I don't know how cutting through that hardened metal effects the life of the die because I haven't loaded enough rounds with it yet, but I would give it some thought because you will be taking a lot more metal than I had to take. Might make sense to have it hardened again although that may have its own problems. Otherwise, the die works fine.

It's a Redding type S.. Our machinist at work said if a file skates off it i would need a carbide reamer. The file won' touch it... I just ordered a type S 30br die.
Thank you for the info!!!

Hi I use a willson die and just change the bushings for 6mm br or 30br works fine for me :)

Every type S I've seen comes with both an expander button and a small knurled button that wont touch the inside of the neck.

H, its my opinion you should always have a F.L. sizing die, BUT I seldom use it on BR cases. What I do use from time to time is a Redding body only die set only part way down, or just enough to fit the chamber. When your neck sizing, sooner or later you will need to move the case walls in a bit.
One thing I question about Redding ball type sizing dies, is they don't use a ball at all, its more like a cylinder, and even lubed well, may have more friction than a ball, and could even pull the shoulder out a bit. But I cant prove that, its just my opinion.
