6mm BR Bullet Design vs Target Distance

I am having a Schneider P5 1/8 with a 104 free bore 6mm barrel built which will be used on a Savage target action and am wondering about what bullet design I should utilize.

Since my range only goes out to 200 yards, should I use flat base target bullets vs the long boat tail/VLD bullets for short range stability?

Thanks,

Shawn

Shoot the same bullet at 200 that you plan to shoot at 600. If your VLD is not stable at 200 yards, you need a different bullet or a faster twist. Good shooting...James

Thank you.

One last thing, my gunsmith told me he has Krieger 30" in 1/8.5 twist and mentioned the 1/8 twist was too fast for the 6mm Dasher. Any words of wisdom regarding the twist rate?

Thanks..

I would go 7.5 or 8 for versatility, you never know when you might want to shoot the longer bullets and it's doubtful it will have any effect on the accuracy of lighter bullets. Don't box yourself in with too slow of a twist.

1st i ever heard 1.8 twist was to fast for a dasher lol.. if your planing on using 105gr hybrids or 108gr bergers etc. I'd got a 1:7.5 to be safe side but my 1:8 twist is doing the job fine

Thanks for the info. I can understand a slower twist if I were to dedicate myself to shooting 70 or 80 grain bullets but I would prefer to shoot the 105's.

Thank you.

Get a new gunsmith. 1/8 is a proven, standard twist rate for 6 Dashers with the 105 class bullets. With the Berger Hybrid, some are experimenting with a slightly faster twist (7.75-7.5).
