6mm BR build help.

My father is set on building (or buying) a 6BR for varmints. He originally wanted to buy a Savage 12 Benchrest (18614), but cannot find one anywhere. I've tried convincing him to gut his old 80's Rem 700 .243 but he would rather buy a new action. If you had $2000 to spend on a build (excluding optic), what components would you buy? I'm new to bolt action builds but trying to learn so I can help him.
I got one Id let go of , bought it as a 6br , shoots great .

Bighorn Origin.
Prefit barrel from Criterion.
Choose a trigger.
B&C stock or a KRG Bravo.

The KRG will feed the BR from an MDT magazine.

Another option is the Kauger Arms actions.
I just put one together with a Proof 7.5T @22".
Fitted and chambered by Archer Custom Rifles.
He did a prefit and the markings actually line up properly.
Used a Triggertech Diamond
and an MDT XRS stock.
It feeds and ejects like butter.

How you like the Kauger action? Im looking for a BR action with 16 tpi

Thank you for the input. IV Been interested in one since they are 16 this breech thread. That is correct right? Which model do you have.

PRS action.
I had thought about the PRS-2 but I really didn't need a trigger hanger.

Their standard actions feel exactly the same.

I'll probably buy one of them as my next toy.
Hopefully I can talk them into a full polish on it instead of the satin look...

They are the same as the Remington with one exception.
The breech end has a slight cone to help smooth out feeding.
A standard "three rings of steel" barrel won't thread all the way in with the bolt closed.
Note the counter bore is different.

So the last question I have. BTW thank you very much for the print. I could show this to a Smith if had any more questions.
But, my question I guess, it looks as if It wouldn't be an issue for a variable shoulder prefit. Right. I have three barrels with 16tpi thread remage types. I'm guessing I could use this action?

Just to be clear.

A barrel threaded to Remington specs will thread completely on.

However, the bolt nose counter bore is different.

If you insert the Kauger bolt, you'd have to unscrew the barrel right at one thread before it will close..

A barrel set up with a Remington type of bolt nose, with the three rings of steel allows the bolt nose to be inserted into the back of the barrel. That creates the "three rings" that Remington used as a marketing tool.

Savages use a flat bolt and a flat backed barrel. This leaves a couple thousands of the brass unsupported.

The Kauger uses a small tapered counter bore along with the barrel.

Honestly, if you cut a little off the back of the Remington barrel, it should work.
My barrel has the tapered counter bore for the bolt nose.

If you look at the images I provided, you can see the tapered bolt nose.
Then look at the tenon drawing and you'll see where the bolt nose sits in relation to back end of the barrel.

I would think if your smith made the tenon with Remington threads and the back of the barrel flat, it should work out just fine.

BTW, Larry charged $325 to fit and chamber the barrel including threading the muzzle end.

He'll be doing more work for me as soon as I purchase my next barrel.

You should be aware that the 6BR has some special chambering requirements. The web dimension is shorter than most cartridges, so the unsupported portion of the case needs to be kept as short as possible. This is the dimension from the bolt face to the edge of the chamber. If you section a case you can measure the web thickness.

I would have a good Smith chamber a Bartlien or Krieger barrel on a Defiance Tenacity action and put it in a Grayboe Renegade stock. It still might be a little over your budget without bedding, and you could you could do that latter at some point too. The problem with the 6BR is going to be feeding it as a repeater, so you will have to do your research or build it as a single shot.
I had heard all that and had concerns I but just had Alamo build me one and it feeds just fine. 737 Impact in an MPA Matrix chassis and it runs smooth from the magazines.

Save yourself a headache and buy a Borden action or a Bat buy the time you buy the REM and have it Trued you have almost the same investment and it will never be as good or shop for used rifle they are always available
