6mm Barrels

Been reading a lot about the BRA vs Dasher debate lately. I’m a Dasher shooter but have an open mind. My main draw back at this time is financial, the cost to switch all guns to BRAs. Has anyone ever taken a new barrel, chambered it in a BRA, tuned it than recorded their testing. Than taken that same barrel and ran a Dasher reamer in and perform the same testing. Would be simple to compare the results. Just curious.

Do you happen to use panda actions? If so I will give you my first BRA barrel, it is fitted for a panda. It's a HV Krieger 8 twist, and was used for one season in heavy class, although it was a 17lb gun. It agged 4.5883" for 6, and 5.3376" for 10. With the two "highlight groups" pictured below. Possibly if it were a dasher it would quit spitting those shots!:D

You can have it free of charge if you want to do the test.

Tom

I'm sure it has another good season in the tank. I couldn't believe how it shot so I took it off and Alex chamber me another one. Also a HV Krieger 8 twist, same rifle platform. I just had to know if it was a freak barrel the first time around. The 2nd barrel agged also in the 4's for 6 and the 5's for 10. Highlighted by the 2 pictured groups below. You can have this barrel too if you want to be thorough with your test.

Tom, thank you very much for your gracious offer. I’m not looking to bash either, or for that matter any cartridge. Just trying to obtain real data not based on personal preference. I know that you are probably one of the best in the 1000yd game. It’s hard for me shooting on a limited budget to make a major change. My Dashers have been shooting somewhat decent. As you know we’re all looking to be better. I’m just looking for some unbiased, unconventional information.

Yeah I get it. It's like anything else, if I get them going like I want them....how can a guy possibly run a reamer in to test this? Lol

Would be interesting to see though, I agree.

Maybe chat with Roger, I think he basically did the reverse of this test in 2017. What was Tom shooting last season when you guys finally had some decent conditions? It was just listed as 6mm tm from what I could see, and that's what they mark mine since our initials are the same.

I will be honest Tom I don’t know what Tom Murtiff is shooting. He is a great person and a wonderful competitor but we really don’t talk shop if you now what I mean. It’s really no secret that just about everyone is shooting 4895 and VT Bullets. BRA shooters and Dashers alike. We all come from the same mold, we spend lots of money and time trying to figure out how to put 10 shots through the same hole. My Dashers seem to perform well with a load of 4895 that pushes a VT at around 3000 to 3010 FPS. Kriegers, Broughton, Bartlien, they are all the same.

Everyone, for whatever reason want to bash and belittle others, I feel that we should be doing nothing but helping others to achieve the best they can be. Our sport is dying, and if we don’t all come together and help others it will be done. We all need to promote benchrest shooting weather we shoot at 100yds or 2 miles. This bickering about cartridges and Bullets is stupid. I’m an advocate of listening and learning. Like a said before our common goal is to put all shots through the same hole.

If anyone wants to know what I am shooting at Williamsport on any given week I will be happy to post it here with complete honesty. No games. This coming weekend will be 29.90gr of 4885 with a 2018 103 VT. Bullet will be set to Alex Wheelers touch method. CCI BR-4. About as honest as you can get.

I agree totally.

BRA for Missoula next weekend. I load at the range but will test Friday morning +-30.3 h4895, Roy 103 set to 4 off(using the Mousel method that I taught Alex and asked him to share to help others;)), cci br4s.

BRA for the following weekend at harry Jones..... orange gun, loading at the match but testing +-30.9 h4895, 103 vapor set to 4 in, fed 205s.... I just want to beat Roy's butt with vapor trails ;)

Any idea what could make this Mousel Wheeler method show the lands measurement get smaller instead of bigger after 500 rounds? Using same lot of bullets.

Let’s all finally work together. congratulations to everyone. I’ll shake the hand of those who out shoot me on any given weekend and hope they do better in the future. This is what competition is all about. Wishing the best for everyone. Hope everyone is safe in their travels. Shoot straight and put them in one hole.

I have been watching those videos on YouTube for the past 2 years. They are what helped me with the Dasher. I was shooting a 30 WSM but had inconsistency with the cases. Years prior I shot a 300WBY. Had to take 13yrs off to lay my children grow up. Put all the guns away. Got back into the game in 2016. Wanted to simplify everything and went with a Dasher. Seemed local at the time.

It’s been doing fine for me. I’m in to the game again and just looking for feedback, the smart ones learn from others.

Tom, Roy makes a fantastic bullet, he is anal about detail. But Tom J. also makes a fantastic bullet, tough pick.

If you decide you want a barrel chambered, I have a reamer, if you let us chamber the barrel and only pay for the work, I'll let you use the reamer. The lathe that weve been doing the work on is in madisonburg, pa. We can also set a barrel back if you dont have a new one.

I just dont like to otherwise lend out my reamers.

Tom i have a panda platform and can do the work if youd like me to then we can both perform the test at short and long range. 4 tests, 2 barrels, bra then dasher. I can only test at 300 right now. Nobody is out any money but shipping then

Expiper beat you to it Dusty. This usually ends up with me losing to my old barrel lol.

Tom
Well if you ever want to do something similar let me know. I know you can test stuff yourself but sometimes its good to get another tester with the same components doing things a lil different

Tom I'm glad to hear you will be at Harry Jones maybe we can tip a few together! I'm still shooting the same barrel I used at White Horse So I should be pretty easy to beat. I know we'll have a lot to talk about, it will be nice see you again, seeing how you don't call me anymore. LMAO
