6mm ARC?

I am wondering about the 6mm ARC in a bolt rifle. I only do informal group shooting at targets from 100 to 300 yds.
I know the 6BR is super easy to find a good accurate load for, but how much different would the Arc be? What might the best weight bullet be for these relatively short distances?
Sorry for the many questions, but trying to keep it within a single post and not over several annoying posts.
Thank you I appreciate all info provided.

I have done a few ARC builds now and while it can be extremely accurate it seems to me a lot more finicky to find a load for. The straight 6BR is the easy button. It will give you a little more performance, uses a standard bolt face and brass is way easier to find with multiple quality options to choose from. It will just about shoot anything from good to great without much work.

It's very close to a PPC but with just a tad more capacity. Unless you form brass from either 220 or 6.5 Grendel Lapua, then available brass will likely be your most limiting factor. Otherwise, for those distances, I'd load it just like a PPC. You might end up a half grain higher or so but they are very near clones. I've shot a lot of 6 Grendels in bolt br rifles. It's a tad bigger than the ARC but still very similar to a ppc. I can load it the same way, just like a ppc.

I have a Savage 110 Switchback 6ARC bolt that I purchased used to use the exact same way. 100-300yd bench targets. Unfortunately this barrel does not shoot so I am working on replacing this barrel with a 26" Shilen. Another friend is also shooting this same rifle only with a Criterion barrel. He is using 105gr Berger's and is keeping up with the BRA's and Dashers.

I'm getting 0.38" moa from 90 and 105 Bergers from 6 ARC in an AR platform in a 20" Bartlein.

In a bolt gun, I thin there's much better 6mm like Dasher or BR etc.

I sure won't argue the slower twist for 300yds. I built mine for shooting steel to 1000yds and just playing around banging targets. I know there are better and faster 6mms our there but the reason I was attracted to the ARC was because of "Barrel Life". I shoot A LOT and barrel life sucks on most of the 6mms. So, I decided to give the 6ARC a go. Even if it doubles the barrel life of the other 6mms it will be a win for me. Also, I honestly don't feel the ARC is a big enough case to push the 103 to 108s to get any advantage out of those bullets. I think it really shines with the 80 to 90s. With that being said I chose the 90gr Bergers. My 6ARC is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned!! This was the first 3 5 shot groups out of a brandnew gun with only 3 rounds through it to sight it in....

I have been looking forward to a new barrel on my Savage Switchback 6ARC but it's been placed on hold as my hobby job has been cut back to 1 day per week as our range in now under reconstruction.

Your posted targets give high expectations that I am hoping for. Mine will be used as a range bench gun at paper targets at ranges from 100-300yds.

Congrats on your build and post updates with loads please!

Just read a article from another forum stating problems with Lapua brass , just above case head.
Don't know if it was his resizing process.
Others claim Peterson brass is better.
We are still referring to 6 ARC.

Any ideas or suggestions.

I have a Gen 2 Ruger with a 20” barrel.
29.5gr of varget and 95 smk, it’ll print 5 shot groups .4-.5” new barrel with speeds @ 2775

Seems to me 6mm ARC is just coming into it's own, given the relatively short time on the market. These days brass seems relatively available with Hornady Starline & now Alpha brass to choose from.

Alpha seems to be the new & premium offering these days. What are initial experiences with Alpha 6mm ARC brass looking like?
