Wow! Some real good information on the ARC. Here's my story, up to todays date.
6 weeks before this last deer season and having a large frame AR in 6.5 Creedmore that is a true joy to shoot but, weighs in at almost 13 lb. so the thought of a small light weight AR with enough poop to take a deer out to 300 to 400 yrds sounded like a good idea. So I ordered a complete kit minus serial lower.
I ordered the kit from "Delta Team Tactical". Shipping time was stated at 10 to 14 working days and a caveat of extended shipping times due to moving. This page was updated 4 times during my wait but never did reflect real shipping times. I sent a shipping update request and got back crickets. Called DTT and left my phone number for a call back again crickets e-mailed too every attempt, crickets. If you like crickets, this is the outfit to deal with, Me Never ever again. Well I did eventually receive the kit 5 weeks later, it looked ok. I thought at the time anyway.
I build on a matched receiver set from Cmmg (nice set, no play, no forward assist) broke in the barrel using 2 shot clean 3 times, 5 shots clean 3 times, 10 shot clean 3 times. Accuracy was something I was hoping would get better as the barrel settles in (170 rounds later it had not), average group around 3" @ 110 yards, there was always a flier or two in every 5 shot group. My light weight, handy rig shot like crap!
Function was 100%, but the for sure "clean kill" range was only about 100 yards, certainly not 200.
I borescopes the barrel and found the free bore (leed) I think it's called was not centered. Lands showing on one side of the barrel and Not on the other side. I have let Delta Team know and again crickets! Check out the borescope photos, pretty sad quality control.
Replaced barrel with a Ballistic Advantage 20" that I borescoped before install. Wow! from what I could see the machining was perfect. Gorgeous inside, each land had the exact same cut pattern, this chamber bore job is perfectly center. The BA folks guaranty 1 Moa and I agree at least with this barrel (10 shot group and right at 1 Moa.) I now had my deer rig and confidence of a clean kill and 3 days left in firearms, buck portion of deer season. Morning before the last day, score! 9 point med sized Mo. buck. about 90 yards out. one shot, went about 50 yards and fell over (seems like a lot of deer make it that far even with out heart or lungs working, just a thought)
Final thoughts: I was a little worried that I had made a major mistake with the original purchase from Delta team and the barrel that came with the kit, after all the barrel is the heart of a rifle. After the barrel swap I'm relieved and have No doubt that under the right conditions any deer within 300 yards is headed for the barbecue grill.
With the little AR shooting now like it should I up graded the trigger, gas block to adjustable one, stock to a fixed stock. I'm really staring to enjoy this little rifle, handy size, shoots better than I can hold it. Like others here I too have grand kids, I can see the smiles already! Again, thanks folks, Uncle of Monkey
