6mm ARC Gas Gun speeds

Finished up a 6mm ARC, small frame AR build with a 20" barrel. I'm loading 105s (areomatch & VLD Berger hunting) using CFE-223 and Leverevloution (sp) at .5 gr. less than max chg. wt. I'm seeing 2500 fps, with 9 fps sd with one powder and about the same with +20 fps increase with the other powder. I don't remember which was faster. To me 20 fps. doesn't really matter.
Both loads shot around 1.25 MOA @ 100 yards, both loads are set to COL 2.260.
Is this what you 6mm arc gas gun shooters are experiencing OR is my rifle running a little slow? Have you learned any tips and tricks?
This is turning out to be a Cool little gun/cartridge combo. I believe with a small amount of tuning ,maybe a new barrel, or not, this little ar is going to be the one to grab on the way out the door.

Thanks to all ahead of time for your insight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an AR in 6ARC with a 24 inch barrel. Using Hornady 105s I am getting mv in the low 2600s. I wasn't getting the speed and accuracy I wanted with 105s so now I am testing loads using 87 grain V-Max.

I also have a bolt gun with a 30 inch barrel. Using Berger 105s I am getting mv in high 2700s to low 2800s with N140 powder.

I shoot a Wilson Combat 18 inch barrel on a rifle I put together. I use this rifle to hunt hogs and yotes. It's also suppressed. I use the max of Leverevolution for AR15's with the 108 ELD-M and CCI-450 primers. My average speed is 2700 fps.
It's a hammer. Killed one hog at 295 yds. This is a 1 mil hold on my thermal scope

Id be surprised if you are in the normal operating pressure. Pushing a heavier bullet 200 fps faster than a lighter bullet from a shorter barrel is suspect.

I've had no issues with the rife so far. I inspect everything after each time I shoot the rifle. It's been very consistent. Dropped 17 hogs and 11 yotes this past year. I built this rifle cuz I was tire of carrying my AR-10. Only time will tell.

I am shooting a 22inch Shilen in 6ARC and I am getting 2785fps with great accuracy. I am shooting the Berger 105 Hybrids, Starline brass, CCI-450s and N540. I am north of 28 grains and could go higher but I found this fps/group and it's shooting great for me.

I suspect the higher velocity load is LeverRevolution. I use bother powders (and N540) in my ARC's and they all can shoot well.

If you are using Hornady data for gas guns, your load is very similar to mine with an exception. Depending on magazine, you can load longer and that may help with your 1.25" groups. My magazines will allow close to 2.3" OAL.

You did not state what barrel you use. Mine are both Proof's and they both shoot well. I believe the better the barrel, the better the outcome (unless you just get lucky). I usually can expect closer to 2625ish fps with my 20" barrel using LeverRevolution and a little slower with CFE223, single digit sd's, and a dirty barrel (always suppressed).

I find other bullets tend to shoot better for either of my 6ARC's than the VLD or Hybrid (Aeromatch copies the Hybrid). I love the VLD's, but not for gas guns and feel about the same for Hybrids. Not saying many folks do not make them work well, I just do not find them as easy to tune in this particular case (literally).

The Berger 95 Classic Hunter shoots well and is a good example if you may plan to hunt with your 6ARC. I seat them out longer than 2.260" though. A 90 TGK has also shown promise and both can get those velocity numbers up especially using LeverRevolution or CFE223 if that is what you are looking for.

I will use 105/108 BT Target or a 107 SMK 95% of the time loaded long.

I've also found using VLD's at mag length to suffer from poor accuracy.
That said, 1.25 MOA is a fine hunting gun.

Bolt or gas?

I have an 18" Proof on mine. I shoot the 87 Bergers with LVR. I honestly think the ideal bullet for the ARC is the 80 to 90gr bullets. I don't feel the case is big enough to push the higher BC bullets fast enough to take advantage of the higher BCs of the 105s and up. I am getting 2800 out of my rifle. It shoots very well too with most 5 shot groups being in the .5 and under range.

Wow! Some real good information on the ARC. Here's my story, up to todays date.
6 weeks before this last deer season and having a large frame AR in 6.5 Creedmore that is a true joy to shoot but, weighs in at almost 13 lb. so the thought of a small light weight AR with enough poop to take a deer out to 300 to 400 yrds sounded like a good idea. So I ordered a complete kit minus serial lower.
I ordered the kit from "Delta Team Tactical". Shipping time was stated at 10 to 14 working days and a caveat of extended shipping times due to moving. This page was updated 4 times during my wait but never did reflect real shipping times. I sent a shipping update request and got back crickets. Called DTT and left my phone number for a call back again crickets e-mailed too every attempt, crickets. If you like crickets, this is the outfit to deal with, Me Never ever again. Well I did eventually receive the kit 5 weeks later, it looked ok. I thought at the time anyway.

I build on a matched receiver set from Cmmg (nice set, no play, no forward assist) broke in the barrel using 2 shot clean 3 times, 5 shots clean 3 times, 10 shot clean 3 times. Accuracy was something I was hoping would get better as the barrel settles in (170 rounds later it had not), average group around 3" @ 110 yards, there was always a flier or two in every 5 shot group. My light weight, handy rig shot like crap!
Function was 100%, but the for sure "clean kill" range was only about 100 yards, certainly not 200.
I borescopes the barrel and found the free bore (leed) I think it's called was not centered. Lands showing on one side of the barrel and Not on the other side. I have let Delta Team know and again crickets! Check out the borescope photos, pretty sad quality control.

Replaced barrel with a Ballistic Advantage 20" that I borescoped before install. Wow! from what I could see the machining was perfect. Gorgeous inside, each land had the exact same cut pattern, this chamber bore job is perfectly center. The BA folks guaranty 1 Moa and I agree at least with this barrel (10 shot group and right at 1 Moa.) I now had my deer rig and confidence of a clean kill and 3 days left in firearms, buck portion of deer season. Morning before the last day, score! 9 point med sized Mo. buck. about 90 yards out. one shot, went about 50 yards and fell over (seems like a lot of deer make it that far even with out heart or lungs working, just a thought)

Final thoughts: I was a little worried that I had made a major mistake with the original purchase from Delta team and the barrel that came with the kit, after all the barrel is the heart of a rifle. After the barrel swap I'm relieved and have No doubt that under the right conditions any deer within 300 yards is headed for the barbecue grill.

With the little AR shooting now like it should I up graded the trigger, gas block to adjustable one, stock to a fixed stock. I'm really staring to enjoy this little rifle, handy size, shoots better than I can hold it. Like others here I too have grand kids, I can see the smiles already! Again, thanks folks, Uncle of Monkey

Same barrel, same powder with a milder charge but 95 Hunting VLD bullets. Easy to hit low 28s and hammers. I like the 108 ELD but (to me) there's a noticeable difference in recoil with the 95.

I stopped trying any other loads when the new Ballistic Advantage barrel produced a 10 shot 1 moa. group using Berger 105 gr. ELD hunting bullet. Then it was time to hunt, now that's over! I have a box of 103's, 95 gr. and 85 gr. on the way and lots of time now to fine tune loads to the rifle and find out what it can truly do. This is where the fun (for me) stuff really starts to happen. I'll shoot some powder ladders followed by CBTO ladders at 600 yards, I think it's going to be a good winter!!!!!!

One more time, I'm not a shill for Ballistic Advantage, don't know any of the folks there and this is my first time dealing with them. I do complement business when they produce a good, reasonably priced product.

Thanks again for your knowledge and advice!
