6mm AR options

I have recently purchased a Rock River lower. I am deciding what to build. I would like a reasonably long range capable outfit (meaning I understand it's not a 338Lapua or 7mm Dakota). My intended use is coyotes, varmints, and rocks, mostly at longer range. 90% of my shooting is done prone from a bipod and rear bag.

I would like any suggestions on 6mm's used in AR's.

Considerations include: effective range (somewhat subjective I know), cost of components and shooting, ease of loading, availability...

I am also considering going with a simple A4 in 5.56 for simplicity and the very low cost / recoil.

Thanks all!

I shoot Robert Whitley's 6mmAR and 6mmAR Turbo 40 and I have lost count of how many National Records I set using them (most were grand senior records).

I shoot a 6AR and it is shockingly accurate & easy to load for. I use H 335 & 75g vmaxes out to 550 yds shooting PD's. Great load data available too. Superb product & machining of uppers is top notch.

I have 3 of Robert's uppers and all shoot very well. For what you are wanting, I would have him do the plain 6AR in 20 to 22" barrel with the muzzle brake. It would be like shooting a 22lr if you use a 90 gr Berger. The 75 gr may be better for coyotes and varmints.

I suggest the plain one only because it appears to be very easy on the brass and you should get a good number of reloading for the case.

All of mine are very accurate.

Does anybody know what the 87 V-Max is getting for velocity out of those cases? I'm also interested in long-range coyotes out to the 500-600 yd. mark MAXIMUM. As far as i can tell this may be the best option for both external and terminal ballistics from the AR-15 platform. Anybody feel that the 105 A-Max will deliver better terminal effect between 500 and 600 using this case/velocity?

I guess the ? i have here is if u were building an AR for the best combination of external and terminal ballistics between 400-600 yds. what would u use?

6MM TCU, would be nice in an AR platform, cheap as far as brass, powder capacity and good bullets would make a great winner if you not worried about a some what big exit hole

I have been thinking of one of roberts uppers in .22 ar turbo.....it should get up pretty close to 22-250.

You might want to look at olympic arms or dtech custom for a upper in .243wssm They are not easy to load for because the brass is hard to deal with but they do shoot when you get it figured out. I have a friend that gets a little better than .243 win balistics with his. stock olympic upper and it shoots .6" at 100

I have a Dtech 6.5-243wssm upper you can reach out with that my varmit load is an 85 gr sierra at 3450
