6mm AR Loads

Heres the story, I shoot high power competition using a White Oak match upper that is chambered for .223. I have really wanted to try a 6mm but cannot really see the advantages for the 300 yd. matches in R.I. However, there are a few clubs arround that started having "egg matches" where the target is an egg at 200 yds, or sometimes a pool cue chalk, shot from a bench. So I decided to build a 6mm on an AR platform to shoot these matches. I realize I should have probably just built a bench rest rifle but I felt the AR platform would dovetail with my high power shooting and besides the AR's are just too easy to work on.

So, thats the story, I now have an AR lower with a Mag-Pul precision butt stock which sits on the rear bag nicely and I purchased a Robert Whitley upper in 6mm AR with a 24" heavy barrel and billet receiver. This is all topped with a Bushnell 8-32x scope.

Rob Whitley gives some very good guidence as to loads for the 6mm AR and at his suggestion I have H4895 and RL15 powder, I also have a lot of Varget which I use for my .223's.

My bullet selection is, Sierra 95 and 107 gr HPBT, and Berger 90 and 105 BT and 105 VLD's.

Would anyone care to share any load data with the above powders.

Thanks,

John

I don't shoot competitively but it works real well for me.
Lapua brass
105 gr amax
28.5 gr rl-15
REM 7 1/2
Avg 2735 fps
Coal 1.714 w/ comparator it is .010 off lands in my gun.
As usual you want to work up to it even though it doesn't show signs of pressure in my gun.

If I were doing something like egg shoots off the bench at 200 yards I would be very tempted to use H4895 (start at 27.5 gr and if everything is fine, you may be able to work up to another grain or so higher) and something like the Berger 80 gr flat base bullet or the Hornady 87 gr V-Max bullet.
Good luck!
Robert

I have one of the 6Turbo uppers so I suppose I could load a little hotter but I could not get near the loads listed on the website. 28.0 of H4895 with a 105 is a hammer. 29.0 of R15 is also a hammer. I use just one loading with either a B105 or 87g Hornady. I've had several sub .5 moa groups at 200 with the 87 and R15. Just amazes me every time I shoot the rifle.
