Hey all in the process of building a long range varmint rifle looking for some good information. I was wondering what would be the expected barrel life of a 6mm ackley improved.

not very long- I have a buddy that shoots F class and Varmits with one. Maybe 1000 rounds at top accuracy?

I shot F Class this Summer with a 6AI, 30 inch MacLennon 8 twist barrel, 722 action, very accurate. Get 3250 fps with 107 MKing, RX22.

Took second in the Friday F,O) Aggregate,300, 500, 900, 1000) at the 2009 Ontario Fullbore Champs. Was in a shootoff for the 1000 yard title.

Shot the Long Range Challenge, 4 matches at 1000 yards, at the 2009 Canadian Fullbore Champs. Took a third.

I have put the rifle away for the Winter and will not shoot it again until a practise just before the 2010 Ontario Fullbore Champs. Accurate barrel life is so short that you have to be stingy in using the rifle unless you are wealthy and enjoy rebarreling a lot.

F Class practise and competitons this Fall or next Spring will be with a .223 or .308. But I use the 6AI when the chips are down. What a beautiful cartridge!
