6mm-284 Mauser

Hello all,

I am new to this Forum and new to this Gun....I inherited this from my grandfather who passed away 15 years ago..its a Mauser 6mm-284..I can not find any ammunition for this gun or anything that he had from reloading for this gun if someone could be to some help. Pretty much what ive been told is i should get 6.5-284 Brass and Get 6mm-284 full length dies and size to 6mm and have someone pretty much load them for me? Check out the pictures and tell me what you think :)

I also have a 6/284 and you wont find factory ammo you have to load for it I have Winchester 284 brass and size them down to 6mm It would be easier to use 6.5/284 brass and if its a 1/10 twist 87amax bullets or lighter will work good Ive used load data from hornady shoot dead on at 200 with 100yd. zero its a laser beam. Its a barrel burner running 3400plus friend of mine suggested making it a 30/284 and nitride the barrel said it would last a very long time good luck getting ammo for your gun.

IMHO.....you need to take the rifle to a very good gunsmith, let him determine the proper chamber dimensions, then either take his advice and council and/or come back here with some more conclusive data in order to receive a proper response. This is excepting that you have cases that were known to be fired in that rifle, to be measured and advice given from there. :)

Start out by researching the cartridge on google.Type in reloading the 6-284 and you will get alot of imfo.I would buy a hornady manual and start reading it about reloading processes to get you there. They list the cartridge with good loads. Then see if grandpa had any reloading stuff you could use or borrow. If not you can get into reloading with a lee classic reloading kit.You will need other stuff but it has all the basics.I would have a smith borescope the barrel to see if there is life left in it.If it is shot out I would rebarrel to an off the shelf cartridge you can buy ready made ammo for!
