6mm 284 help!!

Well just had a rifle chambered in 6mm 284 and was wondering what the most common loads are. i am shooting a stolle action, 28 inch krieger 1/8 twist. I was reading a lot about RL22 but i think thats a temp. sensitive powder, i was wondering if anyone is is using H4350 or 4831? my last question is anyone having a luck with 115 DTAC'S.

Thanks!!

Just a guess here but I'd think 4831 and R22 are both going to be too fast. You'll probably want R25 or H1000 maybe N165 for the 115's.

Stenger; The 6/284 is a favorite of mine, three years and two bbls. I still like it. Worked with H4831, H4350, N160, N165. Always came back to R22.in both Krieger and Pac-nor 8 twist, Hell it worked just like magic. Dtacs worked well under 2950fps .at the faster speeds groups open & sporadically disappear into never never land.never reaching 400yds I recommend 105 Berger and 107 MK. RE22 for work over 3000fps if you feel that need for speed . this is going to be fun Go to Sierra manual and work up slowly JIM

have you tried the 108 bergers with the RL22, what is your velocity spread and how many rounds are you getting out of a barrel?

Also Johnny are you using retumbo with 105 anf 107 grain bullets?

Try Retumbo, I have a couple of 6mmx284's and been around alot of others who shoot them. Try 56.5-58 grains behind a Berger or JLK 105 VLD with a Fed 215. Velocity out of a 26" tube varies from 3260-3330 in a Broughton 5c. Both mine regularly shoot in the high 2's to mid 3's out of a hunting rifle.

H4350 start at 44.0 grains and work up. I was getting 3100 fps with 45+/ extreme spreads of 15-16.
Using Lapua Scenar105-Sierra 107
and Berger 105 VLD. 6mm 284 is a good shooter, but be sure to clean the throat often, with Iosso or JBs.
With the 115 DTAC or Berger, drop down to 42+
for fps around 2900

Many powders are compatible with this cartridge, the heavier bullets respond well to the slower powders , the lighter bullets work well with slightly faster burn rates.I have built many of these rifles geared towards heavy for caliber bullets and the results have been great.115 bergers run near 3200fps in a 26" tube in front of retumbo and 105-107's run well in front of retumbo or h-1000.Most builds include a broughton 5C 8twist for 105's and broughton 5C 7.5 twist for the 115's .
