6mm-22/250

I haven't had much luck with it. It has 2056 rounds fired. How many more can I expect? Question is whether its worthwhile to set it back now to 6BR or go ahead and shoot it another year as is and start fresh. Main problem has been fussy seating depth and it probably needs a little more powder now. I switched from Rl 15-105 A max which was accurate to Varget-107 Sierra but never did any real testing. Winchester brass has been ok but the primer pockets get loose fast .I have enough for another year. It's a 600 yd gun basicaly as I have a better 1000 yd one.

Tikkatoy: I also did not have much success with the 6mm22-250: mediocre at best. Read the article in P.S., and was looking for something to replace the 243, Shilen barrel, chamber cut w/ my reamer, Redding bushing die, etc. Worked with it in earnest for almost 1K rds., pulled the barrel & gave up on it. Better ctgs out there, than to spend time & $$$$ fooling around with that one. Just my opinion & experience.

Happy New Year to all ! Just to add a little balance to this. I have been shooting a 6mm/.22-.250 for a little over 4 years and have had great performance with mine. I shoot in reduced course F-class matches at my local club and have scored in the High Master class for a long while. My personal best with this gun is 600-55x. My rig is a MAK Tubegun, 26" 1:7.75 Krieger barrel,Jewell trigger, Nightforce 12-42BR scope, and a trued Rem 700 action. My load is Nosler brass, 29-31gr. Varget, and Berger 108gr BT bullets at .005" off the lands. I'm happy with mine. Good luck to you.

My 6/250 went BLAH at 3799 rounds, shooting 105g Lapua's with 210M and 38g H4350. By BLAH, that's over 1 moa, funny thing was it shot 149-9x at 800 yds good for a win at 800 yds just before it went BLAH at the 900. From scray small groups to barely holding the aiming mark, the big black meatball). Looked down the barrel after pulling it off with a bore scope, no rifling for 6" or so. The 30" barrel could have been chopped off and re-chambered, but it would only make around a 22" barrel after so I just re-chambered it without chopping off the bad portion with the new finishing reamer for fire forming new brass. I keep away from RL powders, they can get you into big trouble and they are double based so harder and hotter on throats etc. H4350 is hard enough LOL

Yep been shooting this cartridge for about 3 years now and about to call it quits. Read the article by John Feamster in Precision Shooting a few years back and decided to give it a try. 87 vmaxs over 34 grs of Varget gets me 3250 fps on the average, 1/2 inch most of the time but not much better, hard on the brass. Used this for pds in WY and squirrels in OR. Wanted to try some F Class. 105 Amax, 105 Berger, 108 Berger, 107 Sierra all tried but cannot get a consistent ES of 20 or below. 30 is more the norm. In the lands out of the lands and every where in between. Win brass sorted, tried Norma too. Powder, N-550 and Varget. Groups 1/2 some of the time but on the average larger. Shoot a great group with one load then reload to verify it and it is not to be. Hart barrel 1x8 Sendero contour, rem action blue printed, Holland break, Nightforce 18x32, jewel trigger, JGS piloted reamer used. Gun weighs in at about 13 lbs. Feel free to chime in if anyone has suggestions or am I just expecting too much from this cartridge. Thanks, Joe

Must be some secret to them. I shot with guys same exact load or .5 more getting outstanding results. The appeal was the ease of making brass that would feed in rapids. Fireforming doesn't intimidate me anymore after seeing the 6BRX and XC working so well but I'm drawn to the simplicity of the basic 6 now and know it will feed if I ever do x course again, and its so economical to shoot. Sounds like barrel life isn't worth a rechamber at this point though. Thanks

Interesting.I would think an extra 6 grains of slower burning, presumably) powder would be more erosive than less volume of a faster one even if it formed a hotter gas. Science could settle it I suppose but sounds like there is some informal general consensus out there to support what you say. Someone was talking about 243 barrel life and was happy with H414. Probably other examples. As far as double based powders go I shyed away from the VV 500 series only to find out RL 22 is one as well. It works great for my Swedes.
