6mm/22-250 from 6.5x47mm Lapua

I saw the post asking about making 6x47mm Lapua from 22-250 brass and just thought I would mention that I am making some really good brass for a tight neck 6-250 from Lapua 6.5x47mm. I was looking for some good match grade brass and someone mentioned how close these two are in capacity and thought I would give it a try. The finished case is slightly shorter than the 6-250 trim-to length but will stretch after a few firings. The finished capacity is very close also to 6-250 brass made from Rem. or Win. 22-250 brass.I have no idea how many firings I will get out of it but I am on the third firing and the primer pockets are still very tight.

Eggman,
Please explain your steps in making 6-250 brass from Lapua 6.5x47 brass. THANKS FOR ANY INFO.

It was pretty simple . Before you neck down make sure you have a small decapping pin or you will have to ream the flash hole for the larger decapping pin. I just used a 6 BR decapping stem. As for necking down I just used my 22-250 Redding "S" FL bushing dies and necked it down after applying Imperial die wax to the outside of the cases. I necked them down in two steps using the largest 6mm bushing I had and used a .264" bushing last . My chamber, best I can tell) is a .268" neck so I then used a K&M 6mm expandiron to expand the case neck and then used a K&M hand turner to turn the case neck to where I end up with a .2655 loaded diameter. I turned just enough so the case would chamber and finished turning the case after fireforming so I had the right cut into the shoulder. Plus just turning enough to chamber gives you more of a false shoulder to hold the case fireforming. I used a medium load for fireforming and never lost a case. I have not seen that much of a difference in velocity using the small primers for a 6-250 but my ES and SD numbers have improved. However I have a 14" twist and use medium fast powders and 62 to 74 gr. bullets . Maybe if you are using slower powders and heavier bullets this may change . I just don't know.

Eggman,
I'm always out looking for better 250 brass for my 22-250 AI and WIN is about the best I've seen, even that, 3~4 load is about all I can get of them after the initial fire forming. I'm not found the idea of pushing a bullet down the barrel to fire form and I understand the 6.5X47Lapua brass is much shorter than the standard 22-250, do you think it can formed with the cream of wheat method?

Thats quite a bit of brass to move so I am not sure if it will or not . Everytime I have used pistol powder to form cases I always end up "finishing" them with a regular bullet load.I was going to try and use the 6.5x47mm L for a 20/22-250 barrel I have but was worried about the brass being to short for no more bullet that I have in the 20 cal neck.

Anyone know of a good source of data for the 6mm/.22-250? I am having a Remington 40XB Rangemaster re-barreled to 6mm/.22-250 and would be willing to buy another loading manual if it has data for the cartridge in it.

I HATE TO BREAK YOUR HEARTS,'BUT YOUR GOING THE WRONG WAY'... USE TUBB 6XC BRASS, IT'S 6 POINTS HARDER THAN LAPUA,MUCH STRONGER FOR HIGHER PRESURES..FIREFORM WITH 9GR.OF HP38 POWDER, BLOW THE BBL.OUT W/ AIR AFTER EACH SHOT THEY COME OUT BEAUTIFUL..6MM/250A.I...BEATS THE 6X47LAPUA HANDS DOWN,,,GOOD LUCK..PACK THE CASE REAL TIGHT W/CREAM O WEAT..REAL TIGHT WOODEN DOWEL PLASTIC HAMMER,,,REAL TIGHT---IT WORKS,& NO BULLETS DOWN A NEW BORE..
