6mm-06 powder choice (update from the range)

Anyone else have any velocity numbers they are willing to share. ? Once I find an the most accurate load I am hoping to keep the speed up there. Antelope are in some pretty open country so want to keep this rifle as flat shooting as possible.

I built mine on a 7tw Kreiger. Shoot 115 Berger. I used re26 and have great luck. I will have to get my log for numbers. I started with 25-06 brass but wish i used 270.
Just curious, 25-06 brass seem like the best parent case to start with. Why use 270 brass? Was just that its more plentiful or some other reason?

Did you shoot it this weekend?

Got a chance to get to the range this morning. Over all very impressed with this set up. I started out with the loads I had ready with mag pro. 55.5 grains seemed to be the ticket. After that the groups slightly opened up to around a half inch. 3B31098B-CE9D-498D-B577-79D2835A47EA.jpeg
I was really hoping I could find a good load with H4831 also. As I picked up 18 pounds of this in bulk containers for 100$ .
At 55 grains the first 2 in this group were touching. Then the third one slipped over to the right. Could very well have been me so I wasn’t ruling it out.

Then I shot these three at 55.5 grains . When I loaded these I felt that this was a slightly compressed load. I didn’t get any flat primers extractor marks or heavy bolt lift. I am going to try this weight again and see if it repeats. I didn’t have a chronograph to shoot over but once I get this locked in I will see what I have for speed. This is with 95 grain Berger VLD hunting bullets.B55FCB68-18D7-4CFE-B660-A5ECD25E4297.jpeg

I also chose 270 brass because I have 25/06 and did t want there to be some sort of mistake using a 6mm round in the 25/06 rifle. ( I don’t own a 270!) I also ran a black marker strip across the base of the case

Made it back to the range yesterday 55.5 grains of 4831 is the ticket. Nice clover leafs at 100. Was ringing the 6 inch plate at 300 every shot of the sand bags. So with the last three rounds I put the rifle in the Bog Pod death grip and hit the same plate all 3 times. I think it will work just fine on antelope.

You got it dialed in. Did you get a chance to chrono? Sorry if I missed it

Magpro has consistently been one of the worst powders I have ever tried in any cartridge as far as accuracy goes. I have just never got it to shoot well for me. I would look hard at H1000 and N565. H4831 will probably provide great accuracy but will probably be a little slower. I would also turn the necks on those cases as well. I have done several 6.5-06s over the years and they have always shot better after turning necks.
I HATE Magpro

My new Garmin came in last week and I was able to get to the Range. With this load of 4831 and 95 grain Berger I am at an average of 3574fps. I feel like that’s zipping fast enough!!
