6GT with Shooters World Precision Rifle Powder - Need Load Data

I just picked up 8lbs of SW Precision Rifle and am looking for some load data to get started. They say it is very comparable to Varget.

Thanks

this is from various sources not my own....compiled to compare different 6mm offerings

The first two screenshots are the first rounds out of both of these barrels. Keep that in mind, as the velocities may be low. Both are 30" tubes.

Ahhh perfect, thank you so much!! I am running 115 DTAC in Hornady brass in a 25" barrel so it's not 1 to 1 comparison, but you have me a good starting point! Have you used Varget or H4350? How does SW Precision compare? I have never used Varget, all of my loads are with H4350 and I am getting good groups and speeds around 2860fps. But my ES is around 20fps and I want to get that down. I know the cartridge was developed for Varget and SW Precision is supposed to be very similar so I am going to try it.

I've used SW Precision in my 22BR. In my experience with that powder you need to drop about 1gr under Varget. Most fellas are finding a good load from 33 to 35grs of Varget, so I would try about 32 to 34grs and see what you get.

I have SW Precision and Long Rifle to test once my GT is completed. I have hopes that the Long Rifle will prove useful. Its slower than Precision and Varget, just a little faster than H4350.

It's a bit more than 'just a little faster', but definitely between VarGet and H4350 in suitable applications.

eg 7mm-08 / Lapua case / Murom KVB-7 primer / 160gn TMK in minimum-SAAMI, extended freebore chamber / 31-inch barrel.

45.0gn H4350 ....................................... 2784 fps

42.6gn SO-65 / Long Rifle ............ 2,750 fps

43.0gn SO-65 / Long Rifle ............ 2,772 fps

43.4gn SO-65 / Long Rifle .............2,796 fps

Low-ish ambient temperature for both c. 12-deg C for H4350 and 4-5 deg C for SO-65.

3-round 100 yard groups and ES values were very good with SO-65 42.6 at 0.25"; 43 giving 0.17"; 43.4 out of the node and vertical stringing at 0.6". ES = 15, 2, 2 fps for the three charge weights respectively.

We no longer get H4350 here because of regulatory changes. This first go with SO-65 is very promising indeed as a possible replacement. (I've also used SO-65 for some three years with the 150gn Lapua Scenar-L at a modest 2,820 fps as a short-distance load in this rifle. It regularly betters third inch in five round groups and can get down to 0.2-inch or a tad less at 100, also producing some excellent 300-yard scores in F-Class matches.)

That's great info on the Long Rifle/Lovex SO65. I had heard it speculated that it was very similar to the 4064 powder or Accurate 2520? Not sure how truthful those statements are.

But I think it has a shot at being decent for the case capacity of the 6GT.

@Birddog6424 It's the next faster 'extruded' grade (Lovex SO-62 / SW 'Precision') that is very close to 4064. In the days of Accurate Arms Co. as an independent outfit (pre Western Powders), it was sold both in the US and here in the UK as 'Accurate Arms 4064' because they are so similar. Today's Western Powders 'Accurate-4064' is a different product made in Canada.

The old pre-Western Accurate Arms 2520 is a double-based ball powder still in production that you guys know as SW 'Match Rifle' and we know in Europe as Lovex DO-73.6. Today's 'Accurate-2520' (from Western) is either made by Eurenco P B Clermont in Belgium like Ramshot powders or by General Dynamics St. Marks Powder Co in Florida which makes Winchester and Hodgdon ball/spherical grades, and gives similar performance, but again isn't the same thing as the Czech made stuff.

I'm not a great fan of the Lovex ball grades, but the 'SO' series of single-based stick grades are excellent performers and over here very good value for money.

Thank you for that information!
