6gt vs the other 100yd to 1k

Anyone her think the 6gt or a close variant will work against the infamous 6brmm variant in one of these disciplines. Mainly in the wind. We have the NBRSA where I live this year. I see in other topics where the 6bra is king agg while the dasher will win on other days. I feel the 6gt has alot of potential especially in the wind. Let's play.

My $0.02 worth.

To be competitive in BR, you need to shoot something that will consistently agg as low as possible. The wind isnt something you beat with speed or even a better BC bullet. Those things aren't completely unimportant but are dwarfed by the importance of repeatable, inherent accuracy.

My comments are intended to apply to the defined restriction of the 6 mm cartridges listed.

I'd take look at the equipment list from 1K Nationals in the last few years I doubt you'll find many 6GT placed in the top 10.
The .25 cal (.257 Kulzer ) would be a better choice.

100 to 1000 is really not very practical.

There are Cartridges that are inherently accurate enough to be competitive at 100 to 300 yards shooting bullets that are as capable.

Going out past that, then other factors come into play, such as BC, ES,SD, etc.

Baring Devine intervention, you will never get a long high BC bullet yo have the same accuracy potential at shorter yardages than a 6PPC or one of the 22 variants based on the same case.

However, at 600 and farther, BC becomes very important as well as a tune that emphasizes SD and ES over pure agging capability at a shorter range. Hence, cartridges such as the 6GT, which has just enough added capacity to push high BC 6mm bullets at enough velocity to make a difference.

The 6GT was developed for the PRS Discipline. Shooters could have a rather low recoil combination that allowed them to see hits on steel in a heavy PRS rifle.

Will it have the same level of precision at 100/200/300 yards as cartridges that tend to rule these yardages.? In a true Benchrest Format, I doubt it.

However, at 600 and 1000, with good bullets and other top notch components such as Alpha Brass, a 6GT might hang with a 6BRA or a Dasher.

A little extra speed from the GT won’t help in LRBR. It’s been tried a lot. As @quest450 said, folks who want more horsepower go up in bore size: 25x47 kulzer, 6.5x47, 300 WSM are common known-performers. Most new-to-BR shooters will really handicap themselves if they choose a larger gun though. The torque in the bags and upset shot to shot are a huge impediment to forming good habits and ultimately, there is no cheating the wind with BC in a game where you can shoot as fast as you want.

For past 600 yards, I'd say either, the 6 GT or, the 6 XC with, "Good", High BC, Bullets,.. WILL,.."Get it, Done".
** Out Past, 600 yds without, TOO Much, "Wind",.. that is !
