6gt dies

Any words of wisdom on 6gt dies. I’ll be using alpha brass and the reamer was an alpha reamer also. Thanks

I don't have a 6GT but, Hornady introduced the factory version so why not try Hornady's bushing dies? Hornady was pretty much the only game in town when I got my first 6 Creed and I've been happy with them.

I am with Clancy, Wilson bushing and arbor seating. If you do not have the arbor press yet, I started with the hornady seater from GA precision, it either came with the micrometer dial or I added it. It seats the longer VLD style bullets really well without giving the bullet the ring at the tip that some seaters do.
Reading is good as well. If haven’t gone done the bushing die rabbit hole yet, do it, it is worth it.

At first, I considered my long-time favorite, Redding—a tried-and-true brand. But they don’t sell direct, and suppliers were perpetually out of stock for my caliber, prompting me to explore other options. During my search, I noticed that more die brands had emerged, some moving beyond the high-end fit-and-finish of traditional systems to offer innovative designs, like easier shoulder bump adjustments. Here’s what I tried:
  • “Brand X” (): The sizer scratched virgin brass. I was told this was normal for straight-sided cases and that I could send it back for polishing. The seater also marked the bullet—both tangibly and visually—despite a measured .002” tension and graphited case neck. They assured me it was fine, and the return was graciously accepted with no restocking fee.
  • “Brand Y” (): It marked the bullet too. Plus, conventional neck bushing dies can create a brass donut creeping up the neck if you trim regularly. There are workarounds—I’ve used them—but why not avoid the issue altogether? The return came with a standard restocking fee.
  • Lee Collet Neck Sizers: I considered this as a thought experiment. It would’ve meant sending fired cases for a custom die, delaying my project by over a month, and adding a step: one sizing to bump the shoulder, another to neck-size. Online discussions mentioned two neck-sizing passes—first to close the neck, then rotating it 1/8 turn to remove collet marks. I passed, though some swear by its runout benefits and uniform neck interiors. It might also push brass from the neck back to the shoulder, dodging that donut issue.
  • SAC Modular Dies:
    • The SAC neck-and-shoulder bushing addresses real problems with neck-sizing bushings, avoiding the donut and potentially improving runout. SAC isn’t the first to tackle this, but they’re scaling it commercially. Combining neck-and-shoulder sizing with a precision mandrel in one pass delivers precise, repeatable neck tension with minimal brass working, assuming the right bushing. Runout in sized brass is excellent and may be key to low total runout with seated bullets. Shoulder bump is simple to set with supplied shims, more consistent than backing off the die (which depends on press spring and brass variability)—another problem solved. If I try 22GT, I’m nearly set—same dies, just different bushings.
    • The seater doesn’t mark bullets, tangibly or visibly. Its radiused, polished stem distributes pressure low on the ogive. The shoulder alignment sleeve works well for .308-sized head cartridges, so I can ditch my .308 seating die.
    • Fit-and-finish rivals or beats Redding’s premium dies. It’s pricey, but the seating die’s multi-purpose use (e.g., .308) softens the blow. Premium price, premium performance—and it looks the part.
I discovered SAC late in my die hunt. As they say, the ignorant pay twice. Still, it’s now my go-to, blending innovation and quality.

After reading the SAC recommendation from Neckturner, I watched the SAC resizing die video on the YouTube channel “ultimate Reloader “. Very good information. And definitely recommend the video.
