6brx/ other fireforming- COW method?

Anyone use- a charge of pistol powder, cream of wheat/ Corn meal and alittle crisco to keep it all in to form their improved brass for 6mm? I use it on my 260AI and it works great.

There was a thread with nice detailed pictures which demonstrated progressive charges of Bullseye if I remember correctly. Very nicely done. That thread would make a nice sticky. I would like to further my knowledge on this subject as well. The guy fireformed in his basement during the winter.

Here is the Bulletin item on fire-forming with pistol powder,Titewad), Cream of Wheat, and a tissue paper wad:

NOTE the false shoulder in the cases prior to fire-forming:

There are some who feel that the COW fireforming method causes barrel erosion. I use the method with great success, but in a dedicated fireform barrel

This is the thread, thanks for pulling it up. Yes I have fireform barrels for both Dasher and BRX so the savings in components is well worth a little investigation. I will certainly be giving this a try.

I have fireformed thousands of cases over the years, everything from K Hornet to the big Ackley Magnums. I have NEVER used COW or any other filler. Just the correct charge of BE, Red Dot, PB, or whatever I happen to have, and a piece of TP to keep the powder in place while I drive to the gravel pit. If I'm doing it at the gravel pit I don't even bother with the TP.

JMHO but it seems that things have gotten more complicated since the Internet.

I used to shoot with things stuffed in the case, but now I stick to regular bullets and Trailboss pistol powder. When using trail boss, I fill it to about the same level as I would using normal powder, but due to its low density, it is only 1/4 the weight. I can fire 100 bullets fairly quickly without heating the barrel up or worrying that the throat is getting burnt out. The 100 bullets that have been fired will just be lapping the barrel, breaking it in thouroughly and smoothening anh high spots off the throat. I,m sure most shooters are like me and have odd boxes of bullets laying around which didnt work out and will never be used again, I use fireforming to use all these up.
