6BRG reamer print and pictures.

Hi

I already have a Dasher, and have just bought a FL die for the 6BRDX, but now a 6BRG is available.

By looking, the 6BRG has a longer neck than the 6BRDX, but also has a larger case capacity. Is this true?

Also, can somebody supply a reamer print so I can compare? Maybe a picture also against the standard case adn the Dasher or 6BRDX. The picture ont he blog is not real good quality, and you just cant see it properly.

I may change my chambering to the 6BRG, but since having the FL die for the 6BRDX, I may stay that way. Is there going to be that much of an advantage with the 6BRG over the 6BRDX? maybe 50fps, or nothing? If it is like my Dasher, the case will take 34 grains, but it shoots best with 33, which the 6BRDX case can hold, or go very close too.

Check the Daily Bulletin. There is a photo, unfortunately, it's not very good. Dave Kiff, http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com, has the reamer print. I spoke with him yesterday and he's trying to dig it out of his archives for us.

Billy Dale says the case capacity of fire-formed 6 BRG cases is 40.8 grains. The neck is .298.

According to David Stripling, the 6BRDX has a 39.5gr capacity, and a neck of .283".

That's a pretty big difference between BRDX and BRG--part of that could be explained by differences in measuring technique. I'll ask Billy to measure it again.

Thanks mate..

Its intersting how the BRG ends up with a greater capacity over the 6BRDX, when in fact it has a longer neck. A lot of taper is taken out of the case with the 6BRDX, so where does this extra capacity come from with the 6BRG? This is why I was interested to see a reamer print. Maybe there is measuring differences, but the capacity of the cases can not be measured to many different ways!

The velocity of 3100fps+ is really shooting quick, as my Dasher will not reach that comfortably? Maybe its in his barrel where the extra speed is coming from.

I hear from a very reliable source that the 6BRDX is getting 2980fps with a 26" barrel, so around the 3030fps mark should be managed, where again, my Dasher shoots.

Time will tell!

Ackley,

I talked to Billy Dale and asked him to re-measure the capacity. He said he got 40.6 once and 40.8 four times, using a Lyman 1200 digital scale.

Here's the answer to the conundrum--Billy's initial email to me said the neck was .298" in length. That was a MISTAKE. The reamer print says .264" and Billy now says the straight part of the neck above the neck-shoulder radius is "right about a quarter inch".

The body has only .010 taper total,.005 per side).

Thanks for the info guys...

BountyHunter, that is unreal with those FB BIBS going at 3130fps... I bet they are super accurate at that veocity too. Which powder and how much.. and does the brass like it?? maybe the brass has no choice?

Moderator... the neck length is now in the favour of the 6BRDX, so we know where the extra powder room comes from in the BRG.

Maybe my HART barrel is a little slow. I am shooting 33g of RL-15, and it shoots very very well to say the least. I need to put it over another chrony, or infact, I may go buy a CED which a lot of you guys think are great!

34.4 gr RL15 and 450 primers. groups at 1k were running 5"s tarting but opene up to 7-8"" but the brass needed annealing. I was having a 6br plate made for my annealer. Remember hand throated for a looong throat, so do not try this in your gun.

I am going to retune this winter to down around 3000-3025 and see if it tightens up. Plus, Randy is not making the 105 anymore, he sent me the 108s this time.

Primer pockets are tight after about 6-8 firings.
